Voice-It Technologies have released version 2.0 of their VoiceSecureIt program for the Palm OS. VoiceSecureIt is currently the only biometric voice security application for Palm OS devices. In short, the software permits Palm OS users to quickly secure their devices via a short voice phrase in lieu of typing or entering in character-based passwords. Version 2.0 adds Treo 700p compatibility along with an overhauled UI for improved ease of use. VoiceSecureIt does offer conventional password "backdoor" access should the need arise as well as numerous security settings that can be altered to suit the users’ individual needs.

VoiceSecureIt is available for $24.95. It is currently on sale for $19.95 until the end of September. Bulk quantity licensing discounts are available for institutional or corporate use.

At the Photokina 2006 show in Cologne, Germany, SanDisk announced an Ultra II version of their new 4gb SD High Capacity (SDHC) format memory card.

While currently limited to 4gb, 8gb and larger sizes are on the horizon. A 4gb SDHC card can store over than 2,000 high resolution digital camera images or up to 8 hours of MPEG 4 video. The SDHC format, co-developed by Matsushita, Toshiba, and Sandisk, offers write speeds of 9MB/sec and read speeds of 10MB/sec on compatible devices.

Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide has been updated for 2007. Available for Palm OS and Pocket PC/Windows Mobile platforms, the movie guide program contains complete details and capsule reviews for over 21,000 films. This year, over 460 new films have been added to the guide. All home video formats are covered, including more than 9,100 DVD, 7,100 Laserdisc and 15,400 Videocassette entries. Filmographies for over 39,000 Actors, actresses and directors are also included.

Originally a native PC title with a Playstation port also available, Astraware's Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars has now been downsized with remarkable accuracy to the Palm OS. In a nutshell, the game's plot centers around George Stobbart, an American tourist on vacation in Paris. His quiet sojourn is interrupted by an explosion and subsequent death in a cafe. George begins nosing around the crime scene and quickly finds himself swept into a world of intrigue and cloak and dagger conspiracies. George's globe-hopping quest takes him to several locales throughout Europe and beyond as he seeks to track down an ancient manuscript written by the Knights Templar. Read on for the full review.

VoiceIndigo today announced that Palm has selected VoiceIndigo as the podcasting partner for its mobile portal This alliance will enable mobile users of Palm 700p and Treo 700w smartphones to discover, listen, and share podcasts.

An image of a Palm Treo 680 with Cingular branding has been discovered live on Palm's software store. The Treo 680 is the likely "lower priced Treo" recently hinted at by Palm's CEO and also confirms previously leaked info on a Palm OS Treo due out in October.

Palm held their fiscal first quarter conference call today with analysts and shareholders. Palm's CEO Ed Colligan gave investors an update on Palm Inc's performance during the past quarter and went over future plans and goals going forward. He also revealed some new details on a upcoming, competitively priced Treo model due to be released shortly and a large scale advertising campaign to follow.

Palm today reported revenue of $355.8 million in the first quarter of fiscal year 2007, ended Sept. 1, up 4 percent from the year-ago period. Operating income rose 28 percent from the year-ago period.
