Articulation is a new VoIP application for the Palm OS from Hampton Software. It is compatible with most Palm OS 5+ devices with a microphone that can access the Internet via Wi-Fi/Bluetooth or EDGE/GPRS. Articulation is the first service independent VoIP phone for Palm OS, which means you can use it with a number of different VoIP service providers.

Pennovate has just released updated versions of both
Pennovate Notes and
CalenNotes for Palm OS. Notes is a note taking paper replacement app. It allows you to take down notes in your own handwriting in a large paper sized format. The latest update features a GUI facelift and a new IntelliScroll feature that automatically forwards the page so you can continue to write as you reach the end of the screen.
Pennovate Notes is available with a 15-day fully functional free trial and costs $19.95 to register.
CalenNotes uses the same digital ink technology in a calendar/time management format. It allows you to create, manage and schedule on your PDA in your own handwriting. It also comes with a free trial and costs $24.95 USD to register.

Vodafone Australia, Palm, Inc. and Research In Motion (RIM) have announced the availability of BlackBerry Connect for the Palm Treo 650 smartphone on the Vodafone mobile network in Australia. The BlackBerry Connect software enables Vodafone's new and existing Treo 650 users to enjoy push-based wireless email and calendar synchronisation with BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Blue Nomad has updated BackupBuddy.net. The newly updated Professional version allows Palm OS-based Treo users to wirelessly backup and restore their entire Treo, including all third-party applications and data, over the Internet.

Reuters is carrying an
article with a quote from an unnamed Palm spokeswoman that states a new Treo smartphone announcement will be made in the UK on September 12th. It is likely this will be the official unveiling of the
next generation Treo due out in Europe. The Windows Mobile powered 3G/UTMS Treo is expected to debut on Vodafone in Europe before the end of the year.

Resets are an unfortunate inevitability of the mobile computing experience, especially on devices running Windows Mobile or Palm OSes. Palm’s own devices have actually become more reset-friendly over the past year by adding larger, easily accessible reset buttons. One disadvantage of the Treo line’s removable battery design is that the battery door must be removed to reset the device. Here’s a product designed to address that minor but irritating oversight.

Other than the lack of a larger LCD, my biggest gripe with Palm’s Treo line is the baffling lack of a standard 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. With SD cards currently available in 4gb capacities and larger sizes on the horizon, users will naturally to want to realize their Treo’s media playback/gaming capabilities in glorious stereo.
