Pimlico Software has released DateBk6 for Palm OS devices. DateBk6 is an advanced calendar application that brings a wealth of functionality and features not even present in most desktop calendar programs. The program is full compatible and uses the same databases as the built in Palm OS programs but offers numerous additional features including colors, fonts, icons, custom alarms, templates, time zones, additional views and much more.

DateBk6 = the best application available for PalmOS. Period.

DateBk3, 4, and 5 were each major reasons why I've refused to leave PalmOS over the past several years. I'm continually amazed by the amount of thought and energy that the developer, CES Dewar puts into this application. (His efforts to deal with the Data Manager nightmare created by Palm's own incompetence will always be appreciated.) The amount of testing his programs undergo before they are released is truly impressive. (DateBk's quality control is essentially the opposite of that of iambic/Agendus.) Mr. Dewar's responsiveness to users is unparalleled and should serve as the gold standard to which all developers should aspire.

I'd like to personally thank Mr. Dewar for continuing to improve what is easily the most important application on my PDAs. Well done!

The Beta releases were very stable prior to this point. CESD's support is great and the upgrade is well worth the small price!

DateBk is so vastly superior to any of the PIM available for Windows Mobile (and I think I've tried them all) it is a major hindrance for that other OS.

I sure wish they'd make DateBk cross-platform. I'm going to BlackBerry in a couple of months and that RIM PIM makes even some of the Windows Mobile ones look competent.

I use a Blackberry everyday because of work, but I'm going to agree that the PIM is horrible. I still carry a Palm TX for Datebk5 (just upgrade to Datebk6 actually).

Maybe in your opinion it's the best but definetely not mine. I tried V5 several times but found it totally inferior to Agendus. For instance, the contacts feature of db5 was ... an icon taking you to the built-in contacts list!!! What a joke!!! And visually I just found it a mess. And how often is it really updated (not just bug fixes)? Also icons were easier to use in agendus. I think in db5 you could only have 1 set built-in, while in agendus you can have as many as you want (without using another app). And I hate it when people say you should buy this cos the developer gives money to monkeys.

Haven't tried v6 though. But I'm happy with agendus so will not consider leaving.

No doubt the preceding post was by an iambic (developer of Agendus) employee...
More sleaziness from iambic? Hmmm...
The_Voice_of_Reason @ 9/19/2006 11:34:06 PM # Q
Well guess what: the poster "dgb2" who slammed DateBk and praised Agendus (a buggy piece of crap) above just registered on Palminfocenter TODAY. Let's see... someone registers today only to SPAM fake praise of Agendus and post B.S. about DateBk5. I wonder who could be behind doing something as SLEAZY as that?

Could it be... SATAN???

Nope - even Satan has ethics.

Could it... iambic???

Bingo! Sleazy as ever. The more things change the more they stay the same... I wouldn't be surprised to see the dumba$$ posted it from work at iambic. If Ryan is logging the DNS of posters, I wonder what a reverse lookup on Mr. "dgb2" would reveal? Hmmmm...

Ouch!!! Cannot believe you people are so touchy just cos I dont like db5. I don't work for Iambic. And you're right about them being sleazy (I think they once registered the db5 domain name???, and I hate the fact that as a registered user you still have to pay $10 every time a new release comes out). But I still prefer it to db5. And I think agendus has a lot of users so I'm not the only one.

How about the @@@@@@@@@@

Does DateBk still put all of the @@@@@@@########## symbils in the notes of appointments if you add icons, or color code the event?

124 pages of features in the manual, and this is the one you're waiting on?

I use GTD, so practically everything in my calendar and tasks has a @ in front of it already, that's all.

And VOR, you don't need to be a jackass EVERYTIME you post...oh wait, apparently you do.

I believe that's 'required'
ackmondual @ 9/18/2006 4:33:44 PM # Q
Palm didn't do too good a job leaving devs specs, APIs, and other info about its PIMs. As a result, these "scripts" are required to get the job done with formatting and extra data.

Been waiting for the official release

Did the upgrade today. Just having the @ location in your today properties was worth the $12.95. Not that you couldn't do it before but it's more elegant in the new verison.

DateBk, great Palm OS classic to be respected.

VampireLestat @ 9/18/2006 2:39:40 AM # Q
DateBk is one of those irreplaceable classic Palm OS programs.

If Palm Inc. is too *swearing* stupid to realize that abandoning Palm OS, thus great classic Palm programs, would be nothing short of disaster then they deserve to go bankrupt.

It truely makes me angry the more I think about having to eventually move over to WM programs and be forced to give up great programs like DateBk.

StyleTap it? altho it won't be the same thing
ackmondual @ 9/18/2006 4:35:44 PM # Q
you'd still need to emulate Datebook itself and the synchronization part of it
