... did Colligan resign or get fired yet?

No reason to cheer then...

Are we really going to have a major news announcement every time their is a new color for one of these things? I think I miss Sony being a Palm licensee today more then I ever have. Every other week there seemed to be a new handheld with them.

I wish there was a contest to decide who got to tell Colligan he was fired. I think it would be better though if he just got a text message on his Pink Centro telling him.

PDA's Past and Present:
Palm TX (Number 2)
Palm - IIIxe, Vx, M500, M505, Tungsten T, TX
Handspring - Edge, Platinum, Deluxe
Sony - SJ22
Casio-EM500
Apple - MP110, MP2000, MP2100

^^From Herb Greenberg's recent Worst CEO's column:

CEO's In The Hot Seat In 2008

...And I was primed to put Ed Colligan of Palm (PALM: 5.56, +0.10, +1.83%) on the list, until I heard from Roger McNamee of Elevation Partners, whose firm late last year bought around 25% of the struggling company. "Ed Colligan is one of the most important reasons why Elevation invested in Palm," McNamee said. Having known McNamee for 20 years, my guess is he wouldn't have bothered to call if he didn't mean it.

Yes, isn't that special?

If an acquaintance (who is in a massively losing stock position in a company) of a Me-Too Media Droid gets wind of an article that the Droid is writing that is nonpositive toward that company, all he has to do is give the Droid a call and say "Don't" and the Droid DOESN'T!

That is to say, absolutely nothing Colligan did changed the Droid's mind!

Why not? It certainly falls within the site's purview and two paragraphs is hardly a "major announcement..."

While I too like to be skeptical of such reoirts, sometimes things should be taken at face value - after all, surely if this McNamee fellow wasn't happy with Colligan he wouldn't bother to issue such an unequivocal statement of support? It fits in with some stuff I remember reading about the early days of Handspring; reportedly, Colligan was the guy who did all the original negotiations with the carriers to get the VisorPhone and then later the Treo off the ground, and he did a good job of it too.

So, maybe he's a crap product manager (hello, Foleo!), but great at stitching up those all-important behind-the-scenes deals.

At any rate, I wouldn't be calling for him to resign yet. The last thing Palm needs is more corporate chaos. If there is even one delay in Nova's long-overdue delivery, though... hand me a pitchfork and a flaming torch.

Well, there have been other articles about this already here at PIC. The bigger question is don't you think it's sad we only have new colors to get excited about in the Palm world, or even yet just another phone with really no more innovation then last.

Absolutely. Two weeks into 2008 and I'm already bored. Bring on the Nova leaks!

Definitely a new direction in marketing. A chick flick and a bridesmaid dress photo contest. You'd think a photo contest "the best-looking draught beer pour ever" would be more appropriate. Maybe a Kirin Ichiban at a sidewalk cafe in the Roppongi district of Tokyo would be a good start. Maybe a Berliner-Weisse and a hard-roll in a German club would do it. An Old-Milwaukee under a bridge in Hoboken would be more appealing than a bridesmaid dress contest.

'pink' Palm Centro

RWalker @ 7/11/2008 5:06:34 PM # Q
I want to buy my wife a new pink palm centro. She has a contract with Centennial Wireless and I want to purchase a Pink Palm Centro unlocked and place the Centennial SIM card in the phone.
Can I do this?
