Comments on: Pre Gets Native Linux Nintendo Emulation

Pre Nintendo EmulatorChalk up another one to the folks behind the Pre dev wiki. Shortly after publishing our first expose into the current state of Pre hacks, details of another big accomplishment have just made their way out.

Original NES Nintendo emulation is now possible if you can brave the developer mode switch and follow a few recompile and configuration instructions. Basically, it works by installing a native Linux version of the FCEUltra NES emulator from within a Debian chroot. Head over to this wiki page for the step by step. You can also check out a quick demo video embed after the break.

I'm not much into Nintendo, but the fact that such fast progress is being made in the hacking is encouraging for the WebOS platform (despite the news that Sprint put the kybosh on the tethering hack research).

I hope that one of the things the people involved in this will work on next is finding a way to lock down the security a little bit more. Hacking your own Pre easily is good. Someone else being able to hack your Pre easily is bad.

How do you launch it?

Is there any way to natively launch it or do you have to do it via telnet as it appears he is doing?
