Comments on: Palm Pixi Processor: Full Spec Sheet

Qualcomm MSMThe new Palm Pixi differs from its big brother, the Palm Pre, in a few important ways. One of those is the hardware that runs the whole shebang: the Qualcomm MSM7627 chipset. On Tuesday, we linked to Qualcomm's February press release announcing the MSM7227 (which is very similar in most respects) and posted the accompanying specs.

Qualcomm have now been kind enough to share with us the full spec sheet for the MSM7627. Like the Pre, it also supports hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, with an OpenGL 2.0-supporting 200MHz GPU - so there should be no worries for Pixi gaming, once Palm manages to get those graphical engineers up to speed. Read on for the full list of specs!

if it's true that you said on the Engadget Show that you didn't know how fast the Pixi processor was.... maybe you should bookmark PIC. :P

Pixi Chips

Did you happen to enquire as to a similar chipset for GSM?

This one supports both GSM and CDMA, so presumably all Palm are waiting for is carrier agreements - and the Sprint exclusive to expire, of course...

Fast enough?

CFreymarc @ 9/13/2009 11:21:23 PM # Q
With a processor that fast, you could now release a native compiler outside of the Palm secret society.

I know nothing about chips. in horsepower or some other standard I understand is this chip mostly the same or better than the Pre?

Mostly the same, but the Pre definitely has more grunt.

'Leaked'?

Tim Carroll @ 9/16/2009 2:07:26 AM # Q
I gotta laugh. What is with this "leaked" meme that's going around today? On Twitter, on other tech sites... (example: http://www.mobilecrunch.com/2009/09/15/palm-pixi-specs-pour-out/ )

Qualcomm didn't "leak" anything - I simply wrote them via the contact form on their webpage and asked, and a nice lady from their PR department sent me the press sheet.

S'pose it makes the story sound sexier to call it a "leak", but honestly. Anyone could have gotten this info.
