Organize Files on Expansion Cards with FilePoint 1.5

Bachmann Software has updated FilePoint. Version 1.5 extends the application's file organization features to external Secure Digital (SD) and MultiMedia cards. It allows users to organize applications and documents into a hierarchy of folders and subfolders and includes the ability to drag and drop documents among folders, plus the ability to browse or search for documents by title or file type. FilePoint's browse and search features helps users to find data stored either in RAM or external memory cards. It is available now for $20.

It has three different views: a "classic" launcher icon view, a folder view, and a file details view. Users are able to open their documents directly from a folder and retrieve documents that were recently opened.

"Although external memory can supplement a device, the data remains segregated from the applications and data on RAM," said Dan Reuvers, Bachmann Software's vice president of business development. "FilePoint allows users to see and access all their data simultaneously, so the external memory card behaves as a true expansion of the internal memory."

Users can open, beam, or print their data with a single tap of the stylus. Applications can be launched, too. FilePoint is able to interpret documents from the many third party developers and file formats, such as Quickoffice, WordSmith, thinkDB, MiniCalc, Documents To Go and others.

Is this another Launcher in disguise?

Is FilePoint any different from other Launchers on the market?

SilverScreen and LauncherIII lets, do this functionality as well, albeit with a different interface right?

No evaluation mode?

Tried to evaluate it, but there doesn't seem to be any way to try it without registering.

It seems that because I had a previous version installed, this version says that it is expired.

If you are brave, you can use PrefViewer or OnBoard Resource editor and delete the application's preference.

Peace Out
Alan

Ugh, have to register to download

Sigh. Another site where they feel they need to collect mailing list info before they honor me with the right to try their shareware. Screenshots and features sound appealing, but not THAT appealing (I get enough spam already, thanks)

Does not seem like a problem?

Just enter something like ihate@spam.com right? = )

Always works...

Crashed my Handera 330 HARD

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/26/2001 8:24:34 PM #
Not sure what the deal is, but does not work well with my unit at all. If I clicked on file within program the Handera would stop responding till I did a reset. On final crash I got a fatal error every time I tried to reset and was required to do a hard reset.

I wouldn't recomend this software without doing backup first, and then be careful.

Crashed my m505 too.

Be Careful if you use PiDirectVFS

I.M. Anonymous @ 9/29/2001 10:59:35 PM #
I was using PiDirectVFS very successfully when I installed FilePoint 1.5. I didn't have much use for FilePoint so I removed it from my m505. Say goodbye to PiDirect; Hosed it! Had to hard reset and re-format my card in order to get it back. Hours of work and retreiving and re-installing files and apps from around my PC. Ouch. I am sure FilePoint is usefull for some folks, but be careful if you use PiDirectVFS too.
