Palm has taken out a
full page ad in today's New York Times newspaper on page A21. The ads pokes a little fun at RIM over the recent widespread
blackberry outage earlier this week. The ad features a
Treo 750 and reads:
"includes voice, email, text, web, calendar and contacts.
And most importantly, uptime.
Palm Smartphones. They connect to your Microsoft Exchange Server. No third-party servers. No hassles. And more importantly, no nationwide blackouts."

Palm's European online stores are
now accepting pre-orders for the unlocked GSM Palm Centro. It is being sold for £199 un the UK and €299 (including VAT) in other countries. If anyone puts an order in let us know in the comments if you get an estimated shipping date.
The Palm Centro runs Palm OS Garnet v5.4.9. It has a 320x320 pixel touchscreen display, Bluetooth v1.2, a 1.3 megapixel digital camera with video capture and 64MB of memory. For memory expansion it has a microSD slot. It has dimensions of 4.22" (L) x 2.11" (W) x 0.73" (D) (107 x 54 x 18.5 mm) and weighs in at 4.2 oz (119g).
The GSM version of the Centro does include the new phone interface and home screen, which debuted on the Treo 680.

IDC's fourth quarter 2007 Handheld PDA report continues to show deep declines, yet IDC says the negative trend may be slowing. According to IDC's Worldwide Handheld QView, vendors shipped a total of 683,004 units in the fourth quarter, marking a 53.2% decrease from the same quarter a year ago and a 6.0% decrease from the previous quarter. For the full year, vendors shipped a total of 3.0 million units worldwide, down 44.3% from the 5.5 million units shipped during all of 2006.

Rapid Movie for Palm OS. Rapid Movie allows you to capture movie clips in a number of different cinematography techniques including: Time-lapse, stop motion and Sequential shooting modes for artistic effect. The movie clips are captures in QuickTime movie format (*.mov) and can be viewed on a desktop or on device with

A
recent report from ChangeWave Research into cellphone customer satisfaction has ranked Palm dead last. In a January 2008 survey of 4,182 customers, only 30% of respondents using a Palm phone reported being "very satisfied" with their device. By contrast, first-place winner Apple's
cultists customers came back with a stratospheric 72% and RIM a respectable 55%.
This trend has been apparent since two surveys previous, beginning with the ChangeWave report from July '07 that ranked Palm second-last.

Access today announced general availability of its SDK and development tools for the Access Linux Platform. The company has also released a Garnet VM Compatibility Kit in conjunction with the
new developer tools, which enables developers to test their Palm OS Garnet applications' compatibility with ALP.
In addition to the SDK, the company has announced some major new partnerships. Access is joining Orange in joining the LiMo Foundation, a non-profit organization working to create a cross compatible mobile Linux software platform. Access has also announced new partnerships with Wind River Systems and MontaVista Software.

Alex Pruss software has released
FontSmoother v2.2 for Palm OS devices. FontSmoother enables you to display smooth (antialiased) custom fonts on your Treo, Centro or PDA. It works across nearly all applications on Palm OS 5 devices with 320x320 or larger screens. FontSmoother includes a number of free smooth fonts and comes with a utility that enables you to convert Windows TrueType fonts. Updates in this latest version include better highlighting support on Treo devices and the ability to store fonts on a memory card.
FontSmoother sells for $12.95 USD. There is a free, fully functional 8 day trial, after which all smooth fonts default to their non-smooth versions until registration is completed (except in a few select bible applications).

Industry Entertainment has released a new version of its
Master Kick title. Master Kick is an arcade version of table soccer, aka foosball. The game gives you the full atmosphere of a soccer match combined with foosball skill. Palm's European division have recently posted a new unlocked Treo 680 updater.
This version appears to be functionally identical to the one
released by Palm a few weeks ago, yet it reports a different software version number (Treo680-2-12-ROW).
The main improvements in this comprehensive ROM update include: Microsoft Exchange Direct Push Technology, power saving enhancements, support for larger SD & SDHC cards, enhanced ringtone support and incorporates previous updates and security patches.
