Another article has appeared to reinforce the Palm Centro's strong initial showing amongst members of the press and the mainstream media outlets. Matthew Miller of ZDnet's "The Mobile Gadgeteer" blog,
has posted a new review/opinion piece entitled
"The Palm Centro; at $99.99 it really isn’t a hard choice”.
This ZDnet review essentially reinforces Palm’s claim that the Palm Centro is the perfect candidate to convert featurephone owners into new smartphone users. Palm's new entry-level Centro is winning praise left and right with many similar articles written by non-smartphone users or former Treo owners that are returning to the platform due to the Centro's affordability and size.

Right on the heels of the
Show Off update comes an update Hobbyist Software's
Phone Technician. This handy app, one of my favorite Treo utilities of all time, is now up to version 2.97. See my
review here.
This new version primarily adds Centro support as well as incorporating Hobbyist's new registration system. Also added is ability to turn the screen off with the Alt key as well as the option key. Other minor bugfixes and tweaks are also present in this new version. Fortunately for Centro users, the need for Phone Technician's volume boost is mitigated due to the Centro's excellent earpiece and speakerphone volume, per Ryan's Centro review.

While Palm is not widely known as being an
accessory supplier, their line of Bluetooth headsets has quietly reached the 3rd generation with the release of the new
Palm Wireless Headset Series 3. This unit is most likely a
rebranded offering, much like how the 2nd-generation
Palm 3265WW was a re-branded
Plantronics Discovery 640/645.
Palm's prices for their branded Bluetooth headsets have come down tremendously in the past year, with this latest release sporting a reasonably MSRP of only $69.99, although this version omits the bundled AC charger of both previous Palm headsets as well as the generous accessory bundle found in the package of its predecessor.

According to the Wireless Week industry trade journal, a new version of the
cancelled Foleo Mobile Companion running on Palm's next-generation Linux OS is still very much in Palm’s future product plans. Brad Smith of Wireless Week has posted
a new article, "Palm Still Tracking the Foleo", discussing comments made by Palm's Joe Fabris (formerly of Microsoft) Amidst the frenzy of the recent CTIA show, about the company’s future plans.

One of the few areas where the older, bulkier 650/700-series Treos possess a distinct advantage the newer, sleeker brethren is in the area of battery capacity. For example, the 700w/wx/p CDMA Treos of 2006 ship with a standard
1800mAh battery, as opposed to the
1600mAh battery found in this year’s
755p. The GSM Treo 680 and 750 fare even worse with a feeble
1200mAh stock battery. Fortunately, aftermarket accessory specialist Seidio has come to the rescue yet again with a new extended battery for the Treo 755p that still fits under the stock Palm battery cover. While the previously available
2100mAh Treo 755p battery provided a reasonable boost over the standard battery, power users were still left wanting for a bit more talk time, especially if they upgraded to the 755p from an older 650 or 700-series device.
