Softick has released a new Palm OS application aimed to improve device performance.
Softick Cache is an adaptive "disk" cache for flash cards used in Palm OS PDAs and smartphones. It works by using a set of card access optimizations using faster dynamic memory instead of the slower SD/MMC and SD host controller systems. Softick claims the utility provides up to ten times faster memory card and flash memory access and has posted some interesting stats on
their website. The program supports most recent Palm OS devices, but should be of particular interest to users of the
Palm LifeDrive.
Softick Cache v1.0 is available now for $9.85 USD. A free trial period is included.

One of the most eagerly-anticipated upgrade for heavy-duty users of the
Treo 680 and
750 has been a
Seidio's extended battery that fits under the stock battery door. While the previously available 2400mAh Treo 680/750 provided double the life of the
standard battery, it had an ungainly hump and required an aftermarket battery door.
Now, Seidio has managed to cram a full 1600mAh extended battery into the stock battery size. This extended battery enables Treo 680 and 750 users to have ~25% more power while maintaining their devices' sleek formfactor and the original Palm battery cover.

The ubiquity of the cellphone is both a blessing and a curse. Being always connected, all the time is a boon for keeping in touch with friends and family. Unfortunately, it means that your boss, your psycho ex-girlfriend and those horrible little outsourced debt collectors can also catch you whenever they please – and short of keeping your phone turned off or forwarding everything to voicemail, there wasn’t a damn thing you could do about it. Until now. Enter Wish Solutions’ Call Block.
Call Block is like having your own personal secretary to screen your calls. You can’t have a torrid affair with it (at least, not without being somewhat perverted), but you can block specific numbers, no-Caller-ID numbers or even entire categories of contacts in a few quick steps. Is it worth $14.95? Read on for the full review…

Coming right after a flurry of updates to the Treo 700w/wx and 700p, Palm has released
an update for their flagship Windows Mobile 5-based
Treo 750 on the AT&T GSM network.
The update is designed to address a long-standing complaint some users have had where system resources become occupied with too many simultaneous tasks and certain audio alerts and notifcations are muted. Palm also states that a residual effect of the bug is that the camera/camcorder function of the 750 can also cease to function.

Owners of
Treo 680s and the
700p with the 1.10 ROM update have a new reason to celebrate. Despite the presence of integrated SDHC support (4GB officially and 8GB unofficially) on these Treos, few desktop or laptop PCs are compatible with SDHC cards without requiring the user to carry along a cumbersome USB, PC Card or Express
Card reader. Thanks to the latest (albeit pricey) release from Sandisk, it’s possible to combine a 4GB high-speed SDHC card with an integrated USB plug. This enables the card to be inserted into any PC with a standard USB port allowing files to be written to or read from the card with the need of any additional drivers, software, or clunky external adapters.
