PalmLoyal has written a potentially controversial piece on what Palm's recently-launched
corporate blog means for the company's future plans. The author of the PalmLoyal editorial, Carl Brooks, argues that certain missed features longed for in Palm Treos (think wi-fi) are absent not due to technical considerations but because only a small percentage of wireless smartphone users are also wi-fi users. In short, the PalmLoyal article claims that the "average" Treo user is ill-equipped to deploy wi-fi onto a smartphone device that is already equipped with an EDGE or EVDO data connection. The author then goes on to advise Treo users to just take a patient "wait and see approach".

Tech Center Labs has released an interesting piece of freeware for the Palm OS. Inspired by Jeff Hawkins book
ON INTELLIGENCE and the work they are doing at
Numenta,
M5_htm Computer is an interactive simulation of memory prediction framework for Palm OS devices 3.5 and above.
The Input and Output environment is a 16 X 16 grid to make it easy to share data with a cluster of Palms. The software "learns" sequences of what is happening in its environment a step at a time, the present prediction grid was caused by the previous 'cause' grid (which was the prediction of a previous grid). M-5 can learn many memory sequences of various lengths and use a combination of them to interact with the environment.

Seven Seas is Astraware and PopCap’s take on high-stakes action and strategy on the high seas.
Seven Seas is hard to categorize but easy to play. Essentially, it’s a pirate-themed version of
Battleship with some real-time, cannon blastin’ action elements (think Rampart) and chess (think
Rook’s Revenge) strategy thrown in for good measure. Read on for the full game review.

Leaked Sprint roadmaps and insider information are becoming de rigueur for Engadget and their mobile tipster, the Boy Genius. Now
Engadget Mobile are reporting some concrete details on the upcoming Palm Treo 755p. The just-released and subsequently leaked Sprint internal memo is promising a handful of features on this latest Treo not present in its 700p predecessor. Straight from the report are "in box support for IM, NFL Mobile, Mobile Voice Control, voice dialing". Most of these features have been rumored or seen in device spy shots previously. No word as of yet if the voice dialing is the same as the application
Palm currently sells for $19.95 and includes as a free trial on current Treos.
Additional tidbits from this latest leak is that the 700p is still scheduled for EOL sometime in May. Assuming things continue to go as planned for Palm and Sprint, the 700p's ROM update is set to arrive sometime during the last week of May, making it the first Palm device to be EOL'd prior to receiving its first ROM update. The May 14th launch date for the 755p mentioned in earlier reports is still planned and reinforced in this latest document.
