The 755p is a CDMA 3G smartphone with EvDO wireless data and built in support for Microsoft Exchange push email. It shares the slimmer design and internal antenna hardware of the Treo 680 and 750 models and comes bundled with a few new software applications. It will initially be available from Sprint for as low as $279.99 with a two-year service agreement and a $100 mail-in rebate.

Concurrent with today's
Treo 755p announcement, Palm has launched the beta version of their new
MyPalm portal and Treo owner resource site. The MyPalm program is designed to assist experienced and novice users alike in maximizing the capabilities of their Treo smartphones.
The most surprising (and unexpected) perk in this program is the 24/7 assistance hotline for reigstered users of this new program. Palm claims that this service is completely free. Additionally, this member-exclusive hotline does not appear to be related in any way to the free 90 days of complimentary telephone assistance that Palm has been bundling with recent Treo devices.

Today's post at the official Palm blog gives us an update on the Palm Desktop Vista Compatibility situation. As it stands now, the Palm Desktop is still not compatible with
Windows Vista, which also leaves most third party conduits, such as
Documents to Go, incompatible as well.
Palm Product Manager David Sloan says that Palm is indeed working on a beta release of the new Windows Vista-compatible Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager software. They are currently targeting a release sometime this summer.
In the meantime, Vista users can make use of the Vista Simple Installer. The freeware app enables you to install PRC and PDB files on Vista machines.

Without any fanfare, Palm has dropped the price of its newest
GPS Navigator kit. The kit has seen a $50 price drop from the original $300 launch price to $250. Furthering sweetening the offer is a $50 main-in rebate that Palm is offering to customers who purchase the bundle from
Palm.com. With an effective final price of just $200, this makes Palm's self-branded GPS solution a surprisingly strong value in the fiercely competitive mobile GPS solution market.
The GPS Navigator 3 package is a relatively new offering from Palm, having been introduced in February 2007. The GPS Navigator 3 debuted at a $300 price but Palm has almost always offered a $50 mail-in rebate on their GPS kits.

The May 1st
Palm Blog posting will be of particular interest to frustrated Bay Area commuters who just happen to also be Treo owners. Adam Moise, Palm's Manager of Developer Relations, has made a very nice blog post outlining some sites and applications that can assist Treo users in navigating the SFO traffic snarls, whether during the Bay Bridge's repair phase or anytime during the workweek.
This post, while truly beneficial to Bay Area residents, still makes a nice read for any Palm user interested in how mobile devices can help combat increasingly congested roads and thoroughfares. This is precisely the kind of useful and unique article that the various employees of Palm will hopefully continue to post the corporate Blog.

MiniTones is a new mp3 ringtone creator for Palm OS Treo's. This simple and lightweight (55k)
freeware app can create custom ring-tones from your own mp3 audio files stored on a
memory card.
It has a nifty file splitting feature that lets you define a custom section of a song to use a Treo ringtone instead of the whole song. Once you trim the song down, it will copy the file to main memory and add it to your ringtone sounds list so you can use it however you would like.
MiniTones is free and is currently compatible with the Treo 650, 680 and 700p.

Astraware Updates Dynomite for Palm OS
Astraware has released a fairly substantial update for its Dynomite action puzzler game. This new version 1.5, the first update for the title since 2003's 1.105 release, adds graphically enhanced menus and game graphics throughout. Astraware has also brought the title's compatibility with newer Palm OS devices up to speed. Finally, the developers have enhanced the game's one-handed operation, presumably to better deal with the revised hard button mapping on newer Palm devices. Dynomite, a PopCap/Astraware production, is available now for $14.95.
