Palm has opened a few new retail stores in recent weeks. Like most of Palm's retail locations these stores are located within airport terminals. The new stores now listed on the Palm retail website include: Charlotte Douglas International Airport (main terminal), Orlando International Airport and in Ohio in the Cleveland Hopkins Int'l Airport.

Rumor A copy of what appears to be an internal Sprint Document has been posted on TreoCentral's message board. The poster claims the document was shown to him at a Sprint store and he was permitted to take a photocopy. If accurate, this story would confirm earlier information told to PalmInfocenter that a
Treo 700p was planned to be released by Sprint in the May/June timeframe. Read on for the details.

Palm has just cut the retail price of the
LifeDrive mobile manager for the second time. The LifeDrive has been given another $50 reduction, bringing it down to a $399 MSRP. There is also free shipping on this model from
Palm.com.
The LifeDrive features a 4GB hard-drive for storage, a 320x480 high-resolution color screen, and both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. You can read the full LifeDrive review here.

Palm has released a Wi-Fi enterprise security update for the Palm TX. The ESU update adds enhanced authentication and secure encryption for many additional wireless 802.1x-based security protocols. Unlike most software update releases from Palm, there is a $5.99 charge to download this update.

Initiate, a launcher specifically designed for Palm OS smartphones, has just been updated to v2.5. Initiate makes it possible to find contacts, programs and bookmarks with ease right from your home screen. It is also a customizable launcher that lets you assign application tabs, play audio from the home screen, send an sms, create & launch shortcuts to apps stored on a memory card and provides a drag and drop interface to manage your device.
Initiate is developed by Hobbyist Software, makers of the popular Bulter treo utility. This new version adds voice dialing and voice launching of applications among other fixes. The full version of Initiate retails for $24.95 and there is a free trial available. There is also a light version with a few less features available for $5.

PalmInfocenter member and reviewer twrock has posted details about his external headset mod for the
Palm TX. He added a smaller 2.5 mm headphone/mic port to his TX in an external adapter that connects to the athena hotsync port. Ron intends to use it for voice recording and for future
VoIP applications. You can check out more

Palm Inc's recently announced
2 for 1 stock split took effect today. The split has increased the number of PALM shares outstanding to more than 100 million, from 51 million. Palm made the move to help the company align its capital structure to that of other companies with comparable revenue. It is currently trading at a split adjusted $20~ per share. Palm will be announcing earnings and 3Q FY06 results next week.

Quickipedia is a new application from
Stand Alone software. Quickipedia is a handheld client for Palm OS devices for accessing and reading the Wikipedia online encyclopedia. I have found this app pretty useful because if you try to access Wikipedia in blazer and most other mobile browsers the page formatting makes the site nearly impossible to read.
