PalmSource today announced results for its fiscal first quarter ended September 2, 2005. Revenue for the first quarter of 2006 was $15.8 million, as compared to $18.2 million reported in the year ago quarter. Gross margin was 93 percent, roughly flat with the year ago quarter.

Palm today announced that the Palm Treo 650 smartphone is now available with the Real Mail solution for business services clients on the Vodafone Spain network. With the Real Mail solution, powered by Visto, Treo 650 users will have secure, real-time access to email.

DataViz today announced it will be providing a demonstration of its native Adobe PDF support for Palm OS at next week's CTIA Wireless I.T. & Entertainment show San Francisco, CA. This native PDF solution provides Palm OS devices with an image-rich, WYSIWYG-view of product brochures, manuals, annual reports and other common Adobe PDF files without requiring any desktop conversion.

A new lawsuit is being brought against Palm over defective Treo 600 and Treo 650 smartphones. The suit claims the Treo fail at unacceptably high rates, are inherently defective and that Palm has mislead customers concerning the defects.

BusinessWeek is reporting that Palm put a bid in to buy PalmSource. However, Palm was outbid by other companies and ultimately decided that the deal didn't make sense.

Palm has lowered the price of the unlocked GSM version of the
Treo 650 by $50. This brings the cost of the unsubsidized model down to $649 without a service agreement.
