A representative for ACCESS recently told
News.com that the company's
acquisition of PalmSource would not have an immediate impact on the Palm OS or any of the licensees. The company also says work will continue on Palm Linux and that Cobalt may still see a release.

MobiTV, a live internet television service for mobile phones, is now available for Treo Smartphones. MobiTV is now available for Treo 650 users in the U.S. on Sprint, Cingular, and Verizon networks. The service will be available for other carriers in the U.S. and in other countries in the near future.

Palm has rereleased the Palm Desktop for Windows that was
initially billed as version 4.2. It is now called version 4.1.4E. The E denotes that it is meant for devices with the extended PIM applications.

ACCESS Inc, a Tokyo-based company that develops mobile Internet software, said it will acquire
PalmSource, for as much as 35.8 billion yen ($324 million) in an all cash deal.
ACCESS said in a release that it will make PalmSource a wholly owned subsidiary to expand applications for mobile phones.

Palm's stock today rose 7% to close at 34.59 on an analyst upgrade. A Needham & Co. analyst said sales of the company's Treo smartphones appear to be outpacing previous expectations.
