PalmSource has begun shipping the final version of Palm OS 5 Simplified Chinese Edition to Palm OS licensees. Palm OS 5 Simplified Chinese Edition is the first fully localized operating system based on the leading ARM-compliant Palm OS 5 platform.

Reports have come in that Sony's latest, the Clie UX-50, has started to ship in limited quantities. The UX series has a mini laptop like design with a swivel screen, digital camera and built in keyboard. The PEG-UX50 has both integrated in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless, while the UX40 just includes Bluetooth.

Phillips Electronics and Broadcom have announced new semiconductor Wi-Fi 802.11b chips and solutions, suitable for use in mobile devices such as PDAs and mobile handsets. The new chips are much smaller and more power efficient than current Wi-Fi solutions on the market and enable WLAN connectivity without dramatically compromising battery life.

Palm, Inc. today announced a software update for the Palm Tungsten W handheld. The software update includes more than a dozen new features and improvements to the previous software version and now runs on Version 4.1.2 of the Palm OS operating system.

iGolf Technologies has announced the addition of a SD GPS receiver to its line of GPS products. This new SD GPS receiver is the only GPS receiver available which is
compatible with all Palm OS with a SDIO expansion slot. The SD
GPS receiver will be packaged and sold with two GPS software applications,

Palm, Inc. announced on Friday that it has completed a $19.1 million equity offering for 1.2 million shares of Palm common stock at $15.90 per share. This follows a similar $18 million dollar deal last week.

Earthlink has informed it wireless CDPD customers that is will soon stop offering the service. The company is moving it's customers to a faster network, but is not offering an option to upgrade for Palm handheld users.
