AlphaSmart has announced they are now shipping an updated version of Dana at a lower price of $379. The update includes more internal RAM, updated software and support for additional peripheral devices including SDIO cards and WiFi adapters.

In their latest report, Gartnet says poor worldwide economic conditions, low consumer confidence and a severe decline in the Chinese PDA market affected the worldwide PDA market in the second quarter of 2003, as shipments dropped 7.3 percent from the same period last year. Palm OS based products retained their market dominance, accounting for over 51% of worldwide PDA shipments.

Palm today announced the new name it will adopt following the spin-off this fall of PalmSource and acquisition of Handspring. Palm Solutions groups will become "
palmOne" and will reflect the company’s handheld computer hardware and software solutions business and encompass the subbrands Zire and Tungsten, as well as Treo.

Palm has lowered the price on it's former flagship model, the Tungsten T, by $50. Palm is now also offering a free Veo SD camera and free shipping with the purchase. For a brief period today, the PalmStore was advertising a $199 price in error.

updated Further information about Palm's upcoming fall release has been posted and a clearer picture of the lineup is beginning to emerge. Last week rumors materialized that Palm is planing three new handhelds sometime around October. The new information shows two new Tungsten models and a update to the Zire.

Palm has released drivers for the Bluetooth SD card that enables the Tungsten W to use certain Bluetooth devices and services. The previous drivers were not compatible with the Tungsten W.
