Healthcare organizations are turning to Handheld computers to streamline business processes and improve overall patient care. Using Palm handheld computers, healthcare providers can access and manage critical information at the point of care, where decision support is so critical.

In a week of price cuts and rumors, Sony has again lowered prices across the board on it's s-series handhelds. SonyStyle now lists the color, 16MB SJ30 for $219 USD.

According to market-information company The NPD Group, the Palm Zire handheld was the best-selling PDA in U.S. channels during the fourth quarter of 2002 -- accounting for 13 percent of unit sales. Additionally, the five top-selling handhelds during the quarter all were Palm branded products, accounting for 46 percent of all units sold.

Palm SG has released an audio update patch for the Tungsten T hadheld. The patch has been released to address sound quality issues when playing back certain digital audio files.

Palm SG has dropped prices on their handhelds. The Tungsten T was cut by $100, bringing it down to $399 USD. There is also a free shipping promotion on any handheld when purchased from the Palm Store.

Palm Inc and Handmark today announced that Handmark will publish and distribute the next generation of Palm Solution Group's award-winning Palm Mobile Mentor(TM) software, a collection of organization, productivity, learning and teaching applications for educators and students.

Texas Instruments today unveiled five new OMAP processors, that increase the performance of advanced applications that include graphics, multimedia, and Java. OMAP processors are compatible with the Palm OS among other platforms, the Palm Tungsten T uses a TI OMAP processor. The new processors will enable, smaller, more secure and more economical devices with longer battery life and faster multimedia applications.

United Kingdom
The Tungsten W is now available in the United Kingdom through Expansys. ZDNET is reporting that Sony has confirmed that the UK will get the NZ90, in mid-March, shortly after its release in the US.

A new broadband wireless metropolitan area network (WirelessMAN, IEEE 802.16a) standard from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) has been approved. WirelessMan allows for broadband wireless access in a large metropolitan network.
