FileMaker Mobile 2 Makes Entering Data Easier

FileMaker Mobile 2 is a new version of the app designed to allow users to synchronize their data between FileMaker Pro on their desktop and their handheld. The new version adds numerous user interface improvements designed to make data entry easier, like the ability to transfer from a desktop database Pop-Up Menus, Pop-Up Lists and single Check Boxes. FileMaker Mobile 2 costs $50 but it is a free upgrade for registered users of the previous version.

Missing Sync for OS X Now Available

Mark/Space has released Missing Sync 3.0, which allows most Sony Cliés to HotSync with Macs using Palm Desktop 4.0 under OS X. In addition to OS X support, the new version includes support for Apple's iTunes, iPhoto and the new Sony NR70 and NR70V. It also allows many Sony models to mount Memory Sticks on their desktops as a removable drive. Missing Sync 3.0 costs $30.

Hi-Res Documents To Go Comes with T650C (Updated)

A ZDnet Japan review of the new Sony T650C mentions that it comes with a hi-res version of DataViz's SheetToGo, its spreadsheet app. The hi-res version allows the user to view spreadsheets at regular size, or zoom out to get a wider view of the sheet.

Update: A DataViz spokesperson said, "At this time we do not have the high res version of Sheet To Go as part of the retail sold Documents To Go Standard Edition. It was provided to Sony for the bundle and it is something we are working on for the future."

Quickies: Xiino, Office Suites, Palm Tipsheet, and More

The English version of Xiino is now available. This is a web browser that offers support for Javascript, 128-bit SSL encryption, color, tables, cookies, and frames. It costs $25. -Ed

New Quickoffice 6.0 Adds VFS, Hi-Res+

Cutting Edge Software has just released Quickoffice 6.0, the latest version of its office suite of applications. This is made up of Quickword, a word processor; Quicksheet, a spreadsheet app; and Quickchart, a charting app which is tied to Quicksheet. The new version offers both VFS and hi-res+ support, an improved desktop client, and many other new features. It is available now for $40.

Quickies: Sony Results, NR70V, Pocket PC, PalmEvolution

Sony said yesterday it expects good financial results for its U.S. consumer electronics business during this quarter, according to Reuters.. The company said much better than expected sales of its Clié handhelds is one of the reasons.

PC World has chosen the Sony NR70V as the Best PDA in its 20th World Class Awards.

Vaja Announces NR Series Cases

Vaja Cases has begun selling three new cases for Sony's NR series.

The I-VOLUTION Dyna is a flip-case with leather on the outside and inside, but an ABS plastic insert strengthens it for extra handheld protection. It has access ports for the headphones and Jog Dial and comes in a wide variety of colors. It sells for $120.

Magellan GPS for m500 Series Now Available

After first announcing it back in January, Thales Navigation has finally introduced the GPS Companion for Palm m500 Series, a GPS receiver and software combination capable of giving the user turn-by-turn directions. It is bundled with Rand McNally's StreetFinder Deluxe software and is available now for $200.

Quickies: Entourage X, Bump Attack Pinball, Fry's

Microsoft will provide a component to allow synchronization between Palm OS handhelds and the new Entourage X for Mac OS X as a free download starting July 15. -PR

Later today or tomorrow, iambic will release Bump Attack Pinball 2.0, which adds hi-res+ support and an additional table. -PR

Memory Stick Duo Coming in July (Updated)

Sony has announced that the long-awaited Memory Stick Duo will be released in Japan in July. Duos are about a third the size of regular Memory Sticks. The first ones will be 16 MB with larger capacities coming later. There is no word yet on price or when they will be available in other countries.

Movies Coming to a Handheld Near You

Pocket PC Films has made a multi-year licensing agreement with Generic Media to use their gMovie Player to play feature films and other types of programming on any Palm OS handheld. Pocket PC Films holds a library of more than 25,000 titles, including ones from Lions Gate Entertainment. Their catalog has titles of all genres, including business training videos, animated and children's programming, sporting programs, and religious programming.

Palm Mini Keyboard for m500 Series Released

Palm has introduced a version of its Mini Keyboard for the m500 series. It is basically the same as the one for the i705 except for the slight changes necessary for it to fit the m500 series. It is a small keyboard that is intended to be typed on with the thumbs and it uses the QWERTY key layout. It is available now for $60.
