Despite admitting that there are currently no known virus, worm, or Trojan horse threats targeting PDAs,
Symantec announced that it is developing an anti-virus program for the Palm. Ron Moritz, Symantec's chief technical officer said, "Our goal is to safeguard critical data against potential attacks anywhere data wants to be." Because of the smaller storage capacity of handhelds, Symantec is hoping to eliminate the need for the large virus definitions commonly used in anti-virus products.
This statement is almost certainly made in response to recent reports about a virus that is spread by e-mail capable cell phones.

With the
AltaVista Shopping Everywhere! PQA you can find the lowest prices and detailed product information on thousands of products with your wireless Palm. You can search for specific products or see a listing of all the products by category. Tapping on a product name brings up a list of stores that sell that product and their most current prices.
Imagine being in a store looking at a new VCR. You can quickly whip out your Palm VII and look a specific model up to see if the price you are about to pay is a good one. If you have a lot of chutzpah, you might even go to the Customer Service desk and ask if they will match the lowest price listed.

In Today's Philadelphia
Inquirer There is an article "
Sweating the Palms" comparing the Palm IIIx. Handspring Visor, and HP Jornada Handheld computers or Personal Digital Assistants. The article compares the 3 models, discussing ease of use
However the author did not give the correct pricing information or make an adequate comparison of products. He compared the Handspring Visor deluxe to the Palm IIIx in memory and price. The IIIx is an older model introduced last spring. While by no means outdated, the fair comparison should have been with the Palm IIIxe. which debuted in March of this year. The IIIxe and the Handspring Visor deluxe both have 8mb of memory and retain for the same price of $249.00.
(Yes, I did email the author and point out the error)

For the benefit of those of you who have been living in caves, U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson
ordered the breakup of Microsoft yesterday. Carl Yankowski, the CEO of Palm Inc., said in a prepared statement that "Palm believes it is critically important to maintain a fair, competitive handheld market in which consumers determine standards based on their free choice of superior products in areas such as innovation, convenience, ease of use, design and price."
While this isn't exactly a rousing endorsement of the Judge's decision, it at least seems tepidly supportive.

Sony will reveal its much-anticipated PDA running the Palm OS at PC Expo, which runs from June 27 to 29 in New York. Fujio Nishida, the new president of Sony Electronics, recently
announced that the product would be displayed at the giant computer industry trade show but declined to say anything about its price or features. This is not a product release; the device will simply be shown to the public for the fist time.
Sony had already announced that they would release in September a Palm-based PDA. According to c|net, it will be color, use memory sticks, have the same wireless capabilities as the Palm VII, and be amazingly cheap at less than $200.
