European Palm fans rejoice, for the wait is (nearly) over. Palm has just confirmed via
press release that their latest
Pre smartphone will be debuting "in time for the holidays" in the UK, Ireland and Germany exclusively on the O2 network, and exclusively in Spain on Movistar. No word on cost as of yet, nor the availability of unlocked versions, with the release merely saying "pricing for the phone has not yet been determined."
"Europe continues to be an important region for Palm, and we're proud to work with O2 and Movistar to spread the excitement Palm Pre has already ignited in North America," said Jon Rubinstein, Palm chairman and chief executive officer. "Since we showed Palm Pre at Mobile World Congress in February, there's been a great deal of anticipation for an announcement about European availability, and that day is here."

The article cites people "familiar with the matter" and says that the review is in its very early stages. They are looking at complaints of anti-competitive practices, exclusive phone deals and whether or not carriers are unduly restricting the types of services other companies can offer on their networks.

Two new emulators have debuted on hacked Palm Pre's. Homebrew programmer ZodTTD has
successfully ported over a version of his Sony PlayStation emulator. This early version is more of a proof of concept at this point, as it requires
a rooted Pre and a technical install process. The author says it runs well, even bettering a iPhone 3GS in performance. The keyboard is supported at this point, though it currently lacks sound and screen scaling.
Another developer has released a MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) emulator as well. This app emulates thousands of classic arcade games and more. Like the PS1 app, it is in its very early stages and requires some hacking to run. Video's of both in action are embedded after the break.

While Palm has acknowledged that a GSM/UMTS version of the Palm Pre would be released since CES, sightings of said device have been few and far between. The last time the illusive GSM Pre was seen was at the Mobile World Congress
back in February. Now it has made a another appearance, strangely enough, on a Vietnamese mobile enthusiast forum.
A poster going by username dihuta has posted a series of high resolution shots of a GSM Pre on the Tinhte forum. The pictures show, in great detail, a GSM sporting Pre running on "VN Mobifone" along with a number of shots of the back cover and SIM card tray. There is also a seven minute YouTube video clip as well, which is embedded after the break.
