RE: where's the mistake?
They are failing because no one (in quantity) is buying their current two phones - neither end consumer nor followon sell-in to carriers.
Perhaps their software is really really good - they apparently need to get it on hardware that appeals to end consumers in person. Note that this latter thought means that no amount of advertising can help the current situation - when a consumer is confronted with the existing phones they say "Got something else?".
RE: where's the mistake?
Weak economy. Where people would have two devices. One for business and one for personal people can only afford one device. We need more innovative interaction that will create revenue so people can afford more choices. People need to make money to write off business expenses. Corporation need to spend more as they can write off the growth. A corporation can write off business expenses that enhance areas such as enhanced customer service.

RE: where's the mistake?
BS. Apple and RIM are doing fine. Palm's problem is simple - they came out with a platform 2 years late with not nearly enough advantages to convince people to switch. Palm fooling around with M&A for more than a decade has come back to bite them in the ass. USR, 3COM, HandSpring, PalmSource, Pa1m0ne, Elevation Partners, reverse stock splits, gold threaded suits... the list goes on and on.
What's more amazing is how a small amount of solid products kept this company afloat for so long.
RE: where's the mistake?
A strong economy offers more choices and enhances customer service. Palm is doing well considering the circumstances.
