Comments on: LineUp Brings Widgets to the Palm OS

PDAPerformance has released LineUp for Palm OS, a widget environment based on their Saguaro platform. LineUp lets users download customized mini applications somewhat similar in concept to Apple dashboard widgets and Microsoft gadgets. However, LineUp differs as it acts as a environment all its own that allows you to view one widget at a time.

The 2.1MB application file unfortunately does not include any widgets, users will have to download each one individually from the developers website. There are 23 widgets available at this time, with almost all of them being relatively simple rss headline displays from popular news sites. The non-headline widget choices include a fortune cookie and magic eight-ball simulator. The company lists a weather display and world clock among the upcoming releases. The website seems to indicate plans to release tools for third party widget development, so hopefully the current limited selection will eventually improve.

LineUp? Don't think many will.

The widgets are larger than most of my programs. Seems like a lot of hype for an over priced RSS Reader. Think I'll stick with Resco News.

OK then. You just saved me the trouble of trying it on my rotten-assed LD. Thanks for the warning!

They lost me at $30.

Thirty bucks for a glorified RSS reader. Come on guys.

By the way, I received my Black Friday Palm TX and the keyboard is suppose to arrive tomorrow. Feels so good to have my TX back again. First thing I did though was to put it in this: Well after slapping a screen protector on it of course. I'm glad I had my old trusty Tungsten T as a backup but the bigger screen of the TX makes for a much more enjoyable experience.

PDA's Past and Present:
Palm TX (Number 2)
Palm - IIIxe, Vx, M500, M505, Tungsten T, TX
Handspring - Edge, Platinum, Deluxe
Sony - SJ22
Apple - MP110, MP2000, MP2100

Completely unusable. The "fading" looks cool, but it way too slow. The app and widgets are huge. I clicked on a couple of Digg stories to go read them on the web, and that experience was horrible.

No thanks. Do not waste your time.

Get this hype:

>>>Entering the fourth year of development, Saguaro is growing at breakneck speed. And now, it's destined to become a superstar.

Hey, Gekko! Is Nagel in charge of this?

avantgo/rss mashup?

LineUp could give Palm users a better browsing experience for web content than Blazer. To me it seems like a re-implementation of AvantGo around tools like cascading style sheets and rss.

But... maybe that's exactly what a lot of Treo users are looking for. Slick/quick access to news feeds in a not-so-boring UI

USR Palm Pilot 1000 --> Palm Pilot Professional --> TRG SuperPilot --> Palm IIIc --> Palm V --> Palm M505 --> Palm M515 --> Tungsten T|2 --> Treo 600 --> LifeDrive --> iPhone
