Comments on: webOS 1.2 Update Due Next Week

DetectiveRumor: The mythical webOS 1.2 update (featuring the revamped App Catalog, improved copy-and-paste, LED notifications and Big Brother-style remote app removal) has become something of a running joke amongst Palm watchers, but it looks like the end is finally in sight. A helpful tipster - let's call him Deep Palm - has let us know that webOS 1.2 is due to drop by the end of next week (Oct 2nd).

What was the delay? It wasn't the broken iTunes 9 sync, which apparently took a mere couple of hours to fix. Reportedly, it was due to issues with Sprint's data services. But they're being nailed down and release is now pretty much locked in for next week. And not a moment too soon, because we were getting mighty sick of all the impatient anticipation.

Keep Yer Hands Off My Tether

DarthRepublican @ 9/26/2009 7:01:10 PM # Q
The fact that Sprint data services is responsible for the delay is troubling. I hope that they don't intend to break tethering on the Pre because it has become my absolute favorite feature. There is something profoundly relaxing about kicking back after a hard day's work by sitting down and surfing the web. My Tether makes it possible to do this on a city bus with my netbook instead of waiting for an hour or more to get home.

The leaked 1.2 already killed MyTether, and the developer already fixed it. I'm not sure how the fix happened, but I doubt that the final 1.2 (maybe 1.2.1 I heard it'll be released as?) will break it again.

I've been pondering getting a netbook, and MyTether will be a big part of that decision. Having a connection always handy is a must, and one of the things that's been holding me back from a netbook. (I don't want to have to pay for a MiFi-type solution.)

MyTether will be one of the first things I install on my Pre (once I finally get one). Assuming that not much (if any) tweaking is required for the GSM version, I have faith the devs will keep it updated if Palm decide to break it, although I find their required "donation" to get it incredibly amusing. Why bother with the charade?

I wonder when Palm are going to release an official way to tether, though. The capability obviously exists, but carrier agreements seem to be stopping them. Wonder if the unlocked German model will have some form of support built-in?

I live in Vegas...Sprint in Vegas now has 4G...or at least, it is being advertised as such. Does anyone know If or why 4G does not work on the Pre.....when it "might" work on the Pre...or what the deal is?
Just curious...

New radio required.

Thank you...I'm assuming that means a "new" Pre....one that does not currently exist?

Yes, and probably a new battery that doesn't exist yet as well.
