Electric Pocket Launches BugMe! Notepad

Electric Pocket has released a new version of the classic BugMe! “sticky note” application. The app offers media-rich notepad with scrollable notes, bundled clip-art and connectivity.

Electric Pocket’s BugMe! has long been one of the most popular applications for handhelds. The application has been completely redesigned and is being re-launched as BugMe! Notepad. This latest version includes a host of new features such as scrollable notes, bundled clip-art and distinctive alarm sounds. BugMe! Notepad also enables users to share notes by email, MMS or Bluetooth or save them to memory cards for use in documents and email messages.

BugMe! Notepad offers users a number new ways to augment the information already on their handhelds, by annotating it with digital ink or using it as the basis of a timed reminder. BugMe! Notepad can take a screenshot from any Palm OS application, which can be annotated and set as an alarm. For example, users checking voicemail can take a “snapshot” of their contact’s Address Book record, handwrite a note about the message that was left and set a timed reminder to place a return call. BugMe! Notepad will enable users to capture all the relevant information from such voicemail messages on a single BugMe! note.

BugMe! Notepad requires Palm OS 5 and retails for $19.95 USD. A 50% discount is available to previous BugMe! customers.

Typo

I think you misspelled this. I have used several versions of this and it is clearly supposed to be named "Buggy", very buggy.

As I read this my mind drifted back fondly to my original purchase of BugMe! for my Palm Vx. Then I got to wondering why it's no longer installed on that PDA, which is still in use (reliably). Yup: Regularly crashed things, hard reset, and bugging me!

It's not a typo at all. It's clearly supposed to be BugMe.

Hit the "New page" icon and then immediatly hit the "Trashcan" icon...instant, repeatable fatal error. C'mon guys, stop selling Beta versions as final versions!

I own a T3, and I have used BugMe for years. I have had no problems with the new version, except that the jpeg backgrounder will not work (which is apparently due to my using a 3rd-party photo application). What I don't understand is all this moaning and groaning (on the PalmGear site too). AFAIK and can determine, BugMe works fine. The bugs some of you are finding are very possibly yours alone, owing to your use of some 3rd-party software. Why don't you check it out instead of whining? Philippe Radley

I have a brand new Zire 71. I have used at least 4 versions of BugMe on this Zire and formerly on my Clie NR70V. Each version has had multiple problems. No PalmOS software I have ever tried has locked up or just plain messed up as often as BugMe. It is not the model or the version, it is the developer. Electric Pocket, (like Microsoft) has a business plan that calls for more and more features regardless of whether the current features work. Too bad because the feature set is very good. But all the features in the world won't make me buy software that simply fails more often than it works.

I've not had this problem on my T3. In fact, BugMe Notepad has been working wonderfully for me. Version 4.41 had a problem of disappearing notes, but this newest version has corrected it.

I have to agree on the crashes. It's a really neat app, but it has always caused problems on my PDAs... everything from the earlier PALMs to the Sony Clies. One of its enemies is DATEBK 4/5, when DATEBK is set to handle alarms. And that's one of DATEBK's important features. I would give up most of my other apps before giving up DATEBK. (Sorry to get off topic a bit...)

Wow... when BugMe first came out they were about the only 'ink' notepad. Now there are so many with so many different features. While I paid for a copy of the original BugMe, I'm not sure about the upgrade path when held side by side with the other 'options' available. Some notepads give you the option of a desktop side, some list the notes as a text list - some with icons of the notes. Ack! We are really going to be needing a side by side review. Matched up against the built in options too (the TH with their CO version, the T3 with it's notepad).
The biggest issue for me is the ability to share with others. Can I send the notepad item to others to view on their desktop? On their Palm handheld? No longer is the Palm handheld a stand alone device, now that it has become part of the business life - it's apps have to play well with other viewers.

Is that not the most annoying thing. I have a T2, I changed from an E to the T2 mainly because of the voice recorder. however since they are all some version of OS 5 I don't see why it would be so hard to offer T or T2 support

I too am dissappointed because I have an OS 5 device and it is not supported. I was looking forward to the scrollable notepad. But I guess when they say OS 5, they only mean the latest devices.

I really thing they're arrogant in putting out a product this size that doesn't even support some of the most popular PDAs. I have read the comments of the posters on ClieSource. This seems to be an elephantine disaster.

I read the description, but I don't see any significant difference between this and the previous version of BugMe!/BugMeMessenger. Anyone care to highlight what's really different, other than the icons on the bottom?

Is there a reason there wasn't a link to the Electric Pocket homepage? Sure the link to buy it is nice, but to get any info about the developer I have to Google their name?

(Electric Pocket's site is a no brainer, though http://www.electricpocket.com/)

PalmGear has done away with all URls to developer's sites since they're afraid people will buy it there instead of through PalmGear. I, for one, will always buy from the developer's site if possible. Since PIC is now affiliated with PalmGear, that may account for not giving a link. Then again, it could just be an oversight.

$20 is WAY too much for an app of this kind as there are several decent freeware versions around.

If you click on the word Bugme in the second paragraph it takes you to the developers homepage. It was there before you posted so it wasn't a response to your comment

i prefer diddle bug. it has all of the features i want, including screen captures, and is plugin based, so you have just the feature that you need and not anymore. no need for a bloated program.

No "Undo"?!?

OK, what am I missing? There is an "Eraser" tool, but no "Undo"? Why is it that developers of drawing apps so often leave out a simple "Undo" function? Even on the original "BugMe!" app, it was buried in menus. Seems like a glaring omission.

I also deleted it and asked for a refund.

Way too buggy- kept crashing my Tungsten E.

I used to love BugMe on my m 515, but when I moved to the Tungsten, that repeatedly crashed also.

I'll give diddlebug a try.
