Handango InHand for Palm OS enables mobile operators to leverage the rich application features of Palm Powered smartphones, such as the Treo 600 from palmOne, and mobile devices to drive data revenues, grow sales of applications and digital media and increase customer loyalty.

"The launch of Handango InHand for Palm OS is an important milestone in the evolution of the InHand product line," said Randy Eisenman, president and chief executive officer of Handango. "Now, wireless operators and phone manufacturers can implement InHand for their full line of smartphones and wireless handhelds for most major mobile operating systems, providing a consistent customer experience and uniform strategy across multiple smart devices."

Handango InHand for Palm OS features a wide variety of mobile applications and content including games, productivity applications, ringtones and more. Utilizing Handango InHand’s rock-solid security and download safeguard technology, mobile customers can easily find, try, buy and download mobile content quickly and securely.

"Handango InHand provides customers with a customer-friendly way to find and download best-selling applications directly from their smartphone or wireless mobile device," said Larry Berkin, director of developer marketing, PalmSource. "Handango InHand is yet another way Handango helps independent software developers reach new customers and mobile operators to get the most exposure for their Palm OS applications."

Handango worked in conjunction with CFG Solutions, a leading mobile software developer, to develop the Palm OS version of Handango InHand. CFG Solutions provided client-side development, integrating the device-resident client with Handango AMPP, Handango's application management and provisioning platform." The development of the Palm OS version of Handango InHand was an amazing opportunity to provide customers with a simple, first-class method to find and purchase mobile content from their phone," said Frank Ableson, president of CFG Solutions.

The Palm OS version of Handango InHand is available now at no charge. Applications included in Handango InHand’s best-selling catalog range in price from $5-$25 USD. Developers interested in placing their applications in the InHand catalog can contact their Handango representative or partners@handango.com for requirements.

Handango Launches "Up & Comers" Program to Aid New Developers

Handango has also launched a new Handango Up & Comers Program. The aim of the program is to identify and promote promising small or new developers with compelling applications throughout Handango’s worldwide network.

The Up & Comers Program offers these developers no-cost marketing and featured product placements as well as access to Handango resources for product and promotions planning. In addition, participants will be included in Handango’s portfolio of applications for distribution to partners.

"As the mobile downloads industry has grown from a few hundred titles to more than 50,000, smaller developers have gotten lost, but in many cases, these innovative firms are producing some of the best applications out there," said Clint Patterson, vice president of marketing for Handango. "Handango Up & Comers is designed to shine a spotlight on these emerging startups and jumpstart their sales and customer awareness."

Developers accepted into the incubator program will receive more than $12,000 in complimentary marketing; featured placement in a new "What’s Next: Great Software You’ve Never Tried" section on Handango sites; promotion to members of the media; and unique assistance from the Handango team to fine tune their application sales strategies. After achieving a pre-determined sales level or one year, whichever comes sooner, developers will graduate from the program to make room for other participants.

Developers interested in the Up & Comers Program can apply by contacting Handango at partners@handango.com with a description of their applications and their company history. To be eligible, companies must provide exciting, quality mobile software applications with broad customer appeal and must employ fewer than 10 people or be new to Handango customers. Currently, Handango is accepting 10 firms to the program's inaugural class.

New Palm Installer vs Handango InHand

I wonder if these apps are compatible or competitors ... appear to be doing essentially the same task, except the Handango solution is site specific, while the Palm solution appears to be more carrier focused.

What a waste of memory . . . and time

Just what we need, a wireless promo for a limited number of apps. I'd thought we'd be able to browse/download a more substantial number of the apps available on Handango, but no, it appears to be just another "product placement" opportunity for developers who wish to push their software.

I, for one, deleted this "mobile advertisement" within 60 seconds of looking at it.
