PalmSource and Visto Corp have announced that the companies will
work together to build a standard enterprise-grade wireless email client for the
Palm OS platform. The new client will become the default messaging solution for the Palm OS.

PalmSource CEO David Nagel made a several new announcements during his keynote at CeBit America. PalmSource and IBM are working together to advance web services applications. In addition, PalmSource and Novell announced an agreement to market mobile messaging and handheld management tools to Palm OS and GroupWise customers.

updated Handspring has unveiled the Treo 600. The new model features a smaller, more phone-like design with a full QWERTY keyboard and digital camera. The Treo 600 combines a phone, and Palm OS 5-based organizer with messaging, email, and web browsing features. It is expected to become available this fall worldwide.

Sony has announced two new Clie handhelds and is now taking pre-orders. The
NX80V features a 1.3 Mega pixel camera with a "Capture Light", Palm OS 5, 200mhz processor, 32MB of RAM, backlit thumb keyboard and a CF type II card slot. The
NX73V comes in a similar form factor and specs with a lower resolution camera and no light.

Palm today announced that is has licensed IBM's WebSphere Micro Environment (WME) Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) certified runtime environment for inclusion in future Palm Tungsten handhelds. Palm Solutions Group and IBM will offer an open-standards-based and cost-effective development environment for mobile computing.

The Boards of Palm Inc and Handspring today announced that they each have unanimously approved a definitive agreement for Palm to acquire Handspring to form a new, stronger market leader in mobile computing and communications. The Palm board also gave final approval for the spin-off of PalmSource, Inc.
