Quickies: m500 Ethernet Cradle, SplashPhoto, OmniSky Awards

Portsmith is developing an Ethernet cradle for the m500 series that will have limited availability in April with volume availability in May/June. They aren't releasing a price yet. They are also considering models that will have built-in modems and also ones that can handle multiple handhelds.

SplashData has shipped SplashPhoto, an image viewer. It displays color and gray-scale images, which can be viewed as thumbnails, individually, or in a slide show. It costs $20.

OmniSky walked away with two awards at the Seventh Annual Mobile Insights Conference held last month. They were selected as the Best Software/Service for Wireless Data for 2001 and the 2001 Excellence Award for Rookie of the Year.

So, it IS true!

With the announcement of accessories for a non-existent model, does that validate all this talk of the new 500 series?

We've known for a long time that a color V series replacement was coming in the first half of this year that supported the SD slot. Palm's CEO announced that last fall. A European Palm executive even said that it would be released in time for CeBIT at the end of this month. In order for it to use the SD slot, it has to be running OS 4.

What we don't know for certain is what it will be called, its exact release date, or any hardware details.
