Northstar Mobile has lowered the suggested retail price of MemorySafe to $50 for the 8MB model and $30 for the 2MB model. ThinkOutside, maker of the Stowaway folding keyboard, is contemplating a model for the Kyocera smartphone. A company representative writes that the decision will come in the next month or two. The text of the company's letter is here. -Barton Gellman

Within the next few months, AstroNest, Inc. will be completing development on PDA game pads that are compatible with the Palm and Handspring Visor PDAs. Our game pad module, tentatively being called AstroWing, will come equipped with 4 shooting and 4 directional buttons, 300 different sound effects, and trembling effects. AstroWing also comes with 2 MB of flash memory so that developers will be able to add their own background music or sound effects. Currently the AstroWing's buttons will be compatible with all previously released Palm OS games but utilizing the sound effects, background music, and trembling effects requires additional call functions. -Aaron Ardiri

Upgrade?

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/3/2001 12:05:25 PM #
Hmm, I wouldn't even consider an upgrade if the SD memory card expansion worked like it should. I have a 64mb SD memory card that is about 1% full now because NO LARGE DATABASE APPLICATIONS WILL RUN WHEN INSTALLED ON THE MEMORY CARD!

What's up, Palm? The only upgrade I need is a ROM upgrade that will incorporate memory management features like better copy/transfer, partitioning the memory card, more seamless integration with existing software. I didn't realize that the Palm SD slot would be the bastard son of Memory Stick!

Should have gone Handera. That's what you get for choosing form over function. Cheers.

I think that the database problem will be fixed when programmers optimize their software for OS4 and the new SD cards.

You're right about taking function over form. That's what Chevy Chase said when he bought that stationwagon in one of the Vacation movies. I think that boat might have been the inspiration for the Handera 330!

As he said in the movie: "you think you hate it now, just wait 'till you drive it!!"

I thought the current Motorola Dragonball processors could only address a maximum of 8MB.

How do they accomplish a 16MB upgrade???

This is the new 33 Mhz dragonball. It will address 16 MB.

Gamepad

This thing sound badass! I'm glad I didn't buy that WorldWideWidgetWorks thing, this is much better. The great thing is that it will probably work with my future HandEra 330.

Peace Out

340 mb drive

Whoa!.Who needs 340 megabytes on a visor? I don't know if I need it, but baby I WANT IT!!!

340 MB... Overkill?

Azure Guy @ 5/4/2001 1:42:18 PM #
Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a waste of cash? For all the work needed to build a adapter for the microdrive, wouldn't it just be cheaper and easier to buy an old laptop w/ 1 GB of HD space that is designed to handle that sort of power usage? Besides, the only use for THAT much space is MP3s, and last I heard, it's just simpler to buy a Rio Volt and a CD burner.

Especially when everyone using Palm IIIs, Vs, and VIIs would like to see something to allow us the expandability of the m500 series!

Keep Memory Simple

C.. E. Murray @ 5/4/2001 11:03:47 PM #
My Palm IIIxe has more than enough memory. Why is the PDA market in such a rush to complicate and ruin a good thing? Namely simple portability.
