Quickies: Memory Upgrades, m505 Contest, Barcode Reader

STNE Corp. has put a hold on doing Handspring Visor Platinum and Edge memory upgrades. This site says, "The upgrade does not meet our requirements for quality and dependability. We are in process of refining the upgrade for these two types of devices and should have a solution in the near future. " -Geo

Buy a floating•point stylus directly from LandWare before June 13 and be automatically entered for a chance to win the new Palm m505 handheld, a $450 value! The stylus is $14. -David Porfido

Gripon Australia has created a barcode reader designed for Palm handhelds. The same base scanner may be used with different Palm and WinCe devices with just a cable change. They are taking orders now at US$245 including cable. -Ces Luscombe

m505 contest

I.M. Anonymous @ 5/7/2001 9:07:40 AM #
The $14 stylus isn't even compatible with the m505. My next PDA will be an m505 - So why should I go buy it just to enter a lottery which I will almost certainly not win?

Another advertizing stunt...

Perhaps the Landware contest winner will also receive a Floating Point stylus designed for the m505. That would at least make sense.

You actually don't have to buy the stylus. If you check the site, the fine print says you can submit a postcard with your name, address, e-mail, and phone. No purchase necessary.

The winner of the m505 will also be the first person to receive the new floating point stylus for the m500 series.

It doesn't say that anywhere on the Landware site but it would make sense. Do you have inside info?

Yes I guess I do. I'm one of the principals here at LandWare. Don't worry I will personally ensure the winner of the m505 gets a compatible floating point.

Thank you Logan - Nice to see some companies actually read user comments.

Anyone have the address to send the postcard? It didn't say how many postcards you could send in, nor the address.

STNE

STNE seems overpriced for both the memory upgrades and color cases.

Can you recommend another place or two that does memory upgrades and has a good rep?

I just gave into the new $50 Platinum rebate, and I might consider getting the memory upgraded.

Thanks for the heads up, though most of the places listed that do the upgrades don't seem cheaper than STNE.

Anyone recall how long Handspring's Visor warranty is? (since opening the case voids it).

For some reason, my manual doesn't seem to have warranty info, or I can't find the page # it's on.

Just what is a floating point stylus?
RE: M505 Contest
clinton @ 5/8/2001 9:23:30 AM #
floating•point is a stylus replacement that not only protects your organizer's screen but provides a writing experience that is unparalleled. The secret lies in its non-linear, dampened nib that faithfully replicates the feel of writing on a pad of paper. floating•point features a high-grade stainless steel shaft that provides a solid feel and fits perfectly into your organizer.

Additional information about the floating•point stylus can be found at www.landware.com/floatingpoint

hope this helps

The stylus sounds great. I hope they come up with a Visor compatible (in terms of fitting in the stylus slot) version someday. :)

Contest timeframe

I bought a floating point stylus about two weeks ago. What is the earliest date you can purchase the stylus & be entered in the contest? By the way, I love the stylus!

The competition started on the 2nd unfortunately. However what you could do is send us a postcard and that would get you in the draw.
