''No Purchase Necessary''?

aardvarko @ 1/15/2002 2:49:07 PM #
Here's a quote from their contest rules:

To enter the Giveaway (also called the Sweepstakes), simply order a new domain, transfer or renew an existing domain, or purchase a digital certificate during the Promotion Period and you will automatically be entered in the drawing.

Sounds like a purchase to me!

Ohhhh they could be in trouble for that. I say we storm their inboxes demanding free 125s or we go to the BBB(online). Aren' vee all men? WHO IS WITH ME!?!

I just entered for free using the online sweepstakes form. It was the third choice to enter, just underneath the US mail entry method.

I had to fill out my e-mail address, age, etc and also the shipping address.

So it is "No Purchase Necessary" if you don't mind giving a little personal info

There is no purchase necessary. Read the contest rules.

You will be entered automatically if you make a purchase.

If you don't make a purchase, you can enter by sending in a postcard.

You can enter by filling out an online form.

All of this is spelled out if you read past the first line of the Contest Rules.

We will notify the winner by email, so if you don't enter a functional email address, you won't win.

We will put you on our mailing list.

You can take yourself off the list if you want - before you ever receive an email from us.

Please don't post untruths. The Internet is full of enough crap as it is. If you don't want a chance to win a Palm m125, don't sign up. If you don't want to be on our mailing list, send a note to support@myostrich.net and ask to be taken off. You will never receive an email from us other than a contest related email.

We will ever sell, give away, or otherwise use or distribute your email address.

Don't use any account that you care about remaining spam-fre

I signed up for myostrich's contest, using a previously spam-free mailbox, and I got spammed within hours of entering their contest.

This is absolutely not true.

I'm not sure what "I.M. Anonymous" has in for us, but we have not even processed the contest entries from the last week yet - let alone put them in our mailing list.

Post your name. Stand up and be counted. We HAVE NOT and WILL NOT send SPAM or distribute your email address to anyone.

I am the owner of myOstrich Internet, and quite frankly, despise SPAM as much as, or more than any of you. We will not ever SPAM you. We will not ever sell or make your email address available to anyone. Ever. You can remove yourself from the mailing list before we ever send you an email. The instructions on doing so are on the website. If you get a mailing from us and want off the list, instructions are in the mailing on how to do so. If these do not work for you, a message to support@myostrich.net will take you off the list now.

We have not sent out a mail to the list in the last month, and do not plan to send one out till we announce the contest winner at the end of this month.

You know, it's probably too late to have an impact, but I finally figured out why that guy posted and told you to not use a valid email address.

He read the contest rules. Only valid email addresses stand a chance of winning - since notification will only be made via email.

It worked. I've processed about 20 contest entries with invalid email addresses.

Too bad.

If you came to the contest, and used an invalid email address, and happen to see this - you should come back and enter with a valid email address.
