WebOS Developer Webcast Video Posted

Palm and O'Reilly have posted a video of yesterday's webOS Developer Preview webcast, which can be seen embedded after the break. The video includes a presentation and srceencast about developing apps for the webOS operating system and Mojo development environment, followed by a Q&A session.

The event is hosted by Mitch Allen, who is vice president and software chief technology officer at Palm, Inc. Mr. Allen is also the author of the recently released intro chapter of the webOS development book.

Lol! There's something...perfect...about that!

I just got an email from O'Reilly about the archived webinar being available.

At the bottom of the email are a bunch of recommended books related to the webcast...at least as far as O'Reilly's opinion holds it.

Of the 4 books prominently featured, 3 are about Javascript and the other is:

== "...iPhone SDK Application Development by Jonathan Zdziarski
==
== This practical book offers programmers the knowledge
== and code they need to create
cutting-edge
== mobile applications using Apple's iPhone SDK..."

Giggle.

All Pre apps are 'signed'

I'm not sure if it was discussed here or on Yahoo (...) but Palm has confirmed that, regardless how they got there, all applications on the Pre are "signed":

== A: Applications installed on a webOS device will be signed with a digital
== certificate that will identify it and its publisher.

By the way, they go ON to say:

== "...The details of this program are not final and we'll go into more
== detail on the process at a later date...."

so, IMHO, a March 15th release date for the Pre is jsut so much weird rumoring...

Mostly review material, but decent webcast

It was a very simple intro to building a webOS application...they demonstrated the basic structure of a stage with multiple scenes and assistants, and even threw in a UI widget.

You can find an HD version of the webcast that's actually readable here:

If you don't feel like sitting through an hour's worth of video, we've summarized the tutorial here:
