Photos HQThe Photos HQ image enhancement app from Treoware has recently been updated to version 1.0.8. This innovative little program replaces the stock camera app on most Palm OS Treo and Centro devices and offers improved image quality, color fidelity and the option of higher-resolution photos. PhotosHQ also offers an improved digital zoom feature as well a self-timer and the capability to output images in either bitmap or jpeg format. Palm Hires Apple's Former Head of Mac PR

Silicon Valley gossip blog Valleywag is reporting that Palm has hired Lynn Fox, the former head of Mac PR at Apple. A company representative has confirmed to PalmInfocenter that Lynn Fox is indeed the new VP or Public Relations at Palm. This would mark the second major hiring away of a prominent Apple employee since Jon Rubenstein has taken over as Chairmen of Palm Inc.

The last high profile Apple employee to join Palm was Mike Bell who joined Palm as their new SVP of product development. Bell came to Palm after a 16 year tenure at Apple, where he was a vice president in the Macintosh Hardware Division.

Black AT&T Centro Becoming Available

GSM Palm CentroAs predicted, reports of the availability of the Obsidian black AT&T GSM Centro are finally making the rounds online. Several TreoCentral forum members are confirming sporadic retail availability at AT&T corporate stores of the anticipated black version of Palm's newest Palm OS smartphone.

The black version of the phone is considerably more subdued than its white sibling, as the bright lime green numeric keypad has been jettisoned in favor of the standard off-white keys seen on most other Palm smartphones. One final detail to keep in mind for prospective black Centro purchase is that Palm's newly-released extended Centro battery is currently available only with a white replacement battery door at this time.

New Version of mVoice Now Available

mVoice for Palm OSMotion Apps continues to tweak and improve their mVoice phone call and voice memo recording app for Palm OS devices. This time around, the new version 5.5.6 has been released. The company's changelog for this release is mentions "minor improvements" being made to this version. Nevertheless, it's always a reassuring sign to see developers continue to stand behind their products with continued improvements.

mVoice is available now for $24.95 and runs on the Treo 650, 680, 700p, 755p and all versions of the Centro. My review of version 5.0 of mVoice can be found here.

Treo 800w Appears on Possible Sprint Roadmap

Treo 800wRumor: The long awaited and perpetually rumored Treo 800w has made an appearance on a leaked slide from a possible Sprint smartphone roadmap. Originating from a forum post at the SprintUsers.com message board, the slide shows the Treo 800w may debut sometime in July and includes a few device features. Assuming the leaked Sprint roadmap is accurate, the listed specs coincide perfectly with most of the earlier reports of the device's specs: Palm's first device with WM6 standard, its first 320x320 Windows Mobile product, Palm's first wi-fi and GPS-enabled smartphone, and its first EVDO Rev.A device of any kind. The only rumor that seems to be dispelled by this roadmap is that the 800w is destined to ship with Windows Mobile 6.1 standard.
