Analyst firm Canalys is reporting that global shipments of smartphone devices are up 75% year-on-year in Q3 2005. The report claims traditional handheld shipments dropped 18%, while converged devices more than doubled in volume. They are also reporting that shipments of Treo's overtook all Palm handhelds combined for the first time.

A developer has released a free utility that allows users to sync iTunes playlists with Treo smartphones and Sony Clie handhelds.
Mass Storage Synchronizer is an Windows-based iTunes Add-on. It enables users to use iTunes to manage their songs, and sync/update the songs to the device. It currently supports the RealPlayer and PocketTunes audio players.

Brando has introduced a new accessory for the Palm Treo 650 smartphone. The
Music Dock is a stereo speaker system with a 2.1 sub-wolfer. The music dock can also function as a cradle to charge and hotsync the Treo. It has measurements of 177 x 70 x 41.7 mm and has a 3.5 mm line in that will work with other audio devices. It sells for $32.00.

iAnywhere today announced the beta release of new RSS (Really Simple Syndication) features for its AvantGo mobile Internet service. The new features give users greater ease-of-use for viewing mobile RSS subscriptions online or offline, and expands the content available through AvantGo by including the millions of RSS feeds offered by bloggers and major media. AvantGo users can now add any RSS feed to their account, without installing additional software, and then synchronize using a wireless or desktop Internet connection to receive the feed items in a format optimized for their device.

SharkMsg is a new app that brings an innovative new feature from the Windows Mobile Treo to the Palm Treo 650 that Palm and Microsoft said couldn't be done on the Palm OS. SharkMsg prompts you to send an SMS to the caller when you ignore an incoming phone call allowing you to decline a call with a friendly text message.

Ludus Technologies has released a free utility that corrects one of my main complaints regarding the
Palm TX. SharkTXfix will change the "find" icon on the status bar to a "Home/Apps" icon in the bottom right corner, just as it is on the Tungsten T3/T5.
