PalmSource and Research In Motion (RIM) today announced they will work together to make the BlackBerry Connect solution available to Palm OS licensees to enable secure, push-based email and data connectivity for wireless Palm OS handhelds and smartphones.

PalmSource today introduced its Fast ARM Solutions Toolkit (FAST). FAST provides developers with an easier and faster path toward creating ARM native applications for Palm OS 5 that will be compatible with future versions of the operating system.

PalmSource today announced that Aceeca Limited, a New Zealand electronics company has licensed the Palm OS. The company is creating a diagnostic measurement handheld to address the needs of enterprise and industrial instruments markets.

PalmSource today officially announced that Tapwave Inc. has licensed the Palm OS. At launch festivities last night in San Francisco, Tapwave officially launched their company and unveiled details on a Palm OS mobile entertainment gaming device.

Two new reports have shed more info on the devices expected to be announced by TapWave soon. The company is developing a Palm OS, gaming focused handheld to take on the Gameboy.
Update: Tapwave has been announced as a PalmSource liscensee.

Sony has discontinued the Clie NX60. The NX60 was the lower priced NX series model that lacked the built in digital camera. In addition the NX70V price has been lowered to $499.

PalmSource CEO David Nagel mentioned the company will announce two new Palm OS licensees. The announcement will more than likely happen during the PalmSource Developer Conference, which begins Tuesday. Nagel also mentions a new secure client OS architecture and that he expects PalmSource to become profitable by June.

China's largest PC firm, Legend Group, is now selling a Chinese language Palm OS handheld in China. The Legend Pam 168 features a color screen, MP3 player, dictionary and voice recorder.

The worldwide market for handheld devices declined in the first quarter of 2003 due to sluggish demand from businesses and consumers. According to the latest IDC's Worldwide Handheld report, shipments fell by 21% year-on-year in 1Q03 to 2.45 million units. Palm maintained its top position in the market while HP took over the number 2 position from Sony.
