Ethernet Cradles for Visors Announced

Portsmith, Inc. has announced that a version of the Portsmith Ethernet Cradle will soon be released that is designed for the Visor. It provides a fast connection to corporate networks for single-button synchronization of mission-critical data. It will be available in quantities in July but a price isn't yet available.

Currently, most handheld devices can only be connected to an Ethernet network via a cable/card type connection through an expansion slot like the Springboard expansion slot or via a wireless LAN card. Cradle-based Ethernet connectivity offers a solution that leaves expansion slots available for other uses and in some cases also provides simultaneous battery recharging.

The cradle utilizes the DHCP servers already installed in most corporate networks for automatic IP address assignment. This allows for seamless integration into the corporate environment with little or no impact on the existing infrastructure.

It is designed to work with the Handspring Visor, Visor Deluxe, and Visor Platinum models.

I am all for this next step, as I am sure other developers will follow. But I would much rather see it plug into an adapter on my NIC, rather than being forced to buy a second card just for that device.

Prices?

If anyone has any idea of price please let me know - csbdeady@mythicz.u-net.com

Based on the prices of their other products, I think this is going to cost about $200. But that's just an educated guess.
