Week in Review: Dec. 2 -- Dec. 8

Some of the biggest news this week was about wireless ISPs. OmniSky has been bought out by EarthLink while Yada Yada has shut down.

There were a slew of price cuts. Palm dropped the price of the m125, Sony cut the N760C by $50, while Handspring lowered the price of the Visor Edge by $30.

The big news from Palm Inc. this week was the announcement that Handango is taking over the Palm Software Connection, someone is loaning them $50 million, and they put out some new cases.

Speaking of new hardware, we covered a gamepad and a hard case for the Sony Clié, a flexible keyboard, plus some water-proof hard cases.

It was a busy week for reviews. There were new ones on the Handspring Visor Neo, the Silkyboard II, and Ultimate Battle Fleet.

Over in the Market Place there's a m505 loaded with accessories on sale for just $350, there's a S320 for $130, a N710C going for $350, plus much more.

How is a 50 million dollar loan going to save Palm?

I don't see such a limited amount of money having any effect on erasing fundamental mistakes they have made in their business plans over the past few years. Also, any changes made now won't have an impact for another year. I don't think Palm has another year left as an independant company...

Flushing 50 million attempting to plug the drain seems like a desperate move from a once-arrogant company. How things have changed in the past year!

Rumour has it that Satjiv Chahill (Chief Marketing Officer) is going to spend 49 of the 50 million dollars to buy a spot for a Palm device in the upcoming "Terminator 3" movie. In the 3 second spot, Schwarzenegger as the Terminator will use the Palm to beam data to the Conner kid. Chahill's hope is that this product spot in the movie will really ignite Palm sales. Also, he wanted to get Arnold's autograph anyway. BTW - The other $1M will be going to R&D.

Why not spend the other million on an ad in the new Pee Wee Herman movie, "Pee Wee goes to the Big House"? That would give a lot better return than the Terminator III spot you mentioned. And in any event, I hear Arnie uses a PocketPC in real life!

Does he really? Well, I gotta go to the store. PocketPC shopping time... That new T3 theme on PPC 2002 will be way cool.

Well someone has put $50M down as a bet that it will help. What are you putting on the table? Nothing but trash talk. Go away until you have something sensible to say!
