OmniSky "wireless" Message Board and PQA

We have developed a "wireless" message board and PQA for users of the OmniSky modem and service. It was designed and formatted for viewing on a Palm Device and can also be accessed on the web at: http://www.palminfocenter.com/omni/. Users can post and reply to OmniSky related messages in real time and get answers to problems and/or just discuss the OmniSky modem and service in general. Download the PQA here from PalmGear or point your Palm browser to the URL above.

New OmniSky Wireless Message Board

Ina Bechhoefer @ 1/17/2000 9:56:56 AM #
Congratulations on the effort. The PQA works well. However, I have some suggestions that would enhance usablility for the wireless user.

First, there are so many subsections that naviagation is awkward. Each time you go to a subsection you must go home before accessing a new section. It would be helpful to have a button to go to another subsection directly.

Also, it would be helpful to know if there are any new messages so one does not have to access subsections unneedlessly. I realize this option would require a login algorithm. Alternatively, if the total number of messages posted to the subsection is indicated that would be more helpful than no information.

As a follow-up to my previous message, now that there is volume on the Board, it would be helpful to not show "read" messages.

Palm VII(yes it's a version og the VII ROM) on Palm V is buggy. I crash hard a least once a week (No I don't run Hackmaster or the like). When it works it's awesome. The PQA's (web clippings0 are a bit better that avantgo or web browsing actually.

Finally get some MAC compatability will ya!!!!

A funny thing happened... (AvantGo)

I've read about these problem connecting to AvantGo (error connecting to server; no servers have been set up on this system, etc);
however, once connected to the omnisky service, if you force a modem sync, a miracle occurs and you can actually download your channels ...

DANGER - VIRUS OR BAD PROGRAMMING FRIED MY PALM 3

John Layman @ 1/27/2000 11:34:47 AM #
The following message lead me to a link where I down-loaded a tic-tac-toe game.
The game causes a fatal exception that has made my palm useless.

I just noticed that SPUG has this link to a company that is working on a killer
mp3 add-on for the Palm III series. That's not all, the're also working on these
features into the device: File storage, MP3 player, Voice Recording,
Database Server, Text to Speech and many future enhancements. All of that
into a standard modem case! I was a little skeptical at first but then I noticed
the pictures of the board. The site says it's on schedule to ship in April.

Wireless Ricochet Modem and Palm V

Anyone know of a serial modem cable that lets you hook up a Palm V to a Wireless Ricochet Modem. They had a cable for the Palm III and Palm I but I have yet to find one for the Palm V. Please email response to mosttoys@ricochet.net
thanks,
rich

Wanted: help a race car engineer out

aliasalterego@aol.com @ 2/12/2000 11:37:13 PM #
I am NOT a software programmer.

I'm not even a Palm owner - yet...

In my profession we have to record the lap times of the car as it goes by. Typically, you'll use a stopwatch, a pencil, and a notebook. With these times you will record driver comments and notes about changes made to the car.

It occurs to me that a Palm would be ideal to combine all thse tasks in pit lane - and hold them together in a format that could be transferred to Excel or Word or similar later on.

I know WHAT I want in this fairly simple application.

I just don't know how to go about doing it.

Any help out there ?

Omnisky Problems

sheekey@msn.com @ 3/31/2000 5:17:20 PM #
Disaster! Install of omnisky software caused my palmVx's screen to go to an almost black contrast setting and also disabled the contrast settings bar - the bar just won't appear. Worse - the up button is now an on/off button so I can't use it for a hard reset! Worse yet - just for fun i tried to attach the omnsky modem to my palm - but the clasp to attach the two won't grab. After 30 frustrating minutes I gave up. Has anyone had similar problems?
