Lunar Landing Simulator v2 Released

Lunar Excursion Module Simulator v2.0 is now out for the Palm OS. LEM Sim realistically simulates landing phase of the Apollo moon mission. The game features realistic physics, actual Apollo LEM instruments and NASA style sound effects.

LEM SIM - PALM OSLEM Sim is billed as the most advanced lunar lander game available. During the descent to the moon, you may have to cope with system malfunctions while you are busy flying the LEM. Some of those failures are recoverable. One example is a leak in the fuel tank. This will reduce the amount of fuel available for landing requiring you to land quickly. Other failures may be fatal. For instance, if the main descent engine shuts down for too long then NASA may as well name a new crater after you.

The game features realistic physics modeling of the descent engine and thrusters, actual Apollo LEM instruments, Houston voice announcements of your altitude, rate of descent and fuel level and other realistic sound effects.

The main changes from version 1.0 are:

  • New cockpit view: This new version allows to see outside your cockpit. It is all there, Moon surface, stars and even a moving Earth. If you are lucky you can experience an Earth rise. A little bit like the astronauts of Apollo 8 experienced for the first time ever!
  • Land Anywhere: In addition to the Moon, you now can land on any planet of our solar system. If you land on planets with very high gravity like Jupiter, you can choose your main engine maximum thrust.
  • MyFlight: This feature allows you to customize your landing mission. Under MyFlight, you can choose your initial conditions such starting altitude, velocties and fuel amount among other things.
  • Game Auto-Save: The game will auto-save allowing to quit the game and finish the mission later.
  • The lander systems failures rate has been reduced so to make them more impredictable during the descent. You can even disabled them altogether and fly a "perfect" lander.
  • The default mission (Rookie level) is now easier.
  • Many bugs from version 1.0 have been fixed.

LEM Sim v2.0 is available now for $9.95 USD. There is a free seven day full trial.

Lunar Lander

I found the earlier version difficult to use on my E2, so removed it. I just downloaded the trial version today directly to my SD Card. I find the program there, but am not able to excute it. 800K+ is too much for me to put on the main memory. I'd guess that those who have numerous other productivity apps, which tend to suck up ram, may have issues with this. Is there no way to run this from my SD card? I read the 'readmefirst' file, but saw no mention.

Hello.

Yes I am the LEM Simulator 2.0 develloper. I agree 100% with that version 1.0 was difficult to use!! I have not only reduce the difficulty (at least when you are at the default Rookie level!!). Also you CAN leave it in our SD card and run it from there. That way it won't take the space on your device. As you know all apps seating in the SD card get sent to the device when launched then removed when you quit the app.

I hope you enjoy version 2.0 and if you have any issues/questions either leave a message here or drop me a note at lemsim@gmail.com

I will be happy to help.

Mo.

For anybody interested:

Yes you can run LEM Simulator 2.0 from the card and save the device memory. Just make sure you first load the game into your device and then copy it into your card.

Hope this will help somebody.
