Rumor: Verizon Wireless users who are anxiously awaiting the release of the Palm OS-based
Treo 755p over competing RIM and Windows Mobile-based smart devices are going to have to wait a bit longer.
A very legitimate-looking Verizon release roadmap has been leaked and posted to the Phone Arena website. The roadmap reveals that the 755p's release date has slipped yet again to some unspecified point in November.

Sam Samadi, Palm’s VP of Product Quality and Compliance, has posted
an update to the Palm corporate blog. Mr. Samadi’s post discusses last week’s
sudden removal of the ROM update software for not only the Verizon version of the Treo 700p but the Windows Mobile 5-powered Verizon 700w/wx as well.
In the blog past, dated August 15th, Mr. Samadi goes on to report that in addition to the three Verizon Treos affected, the Sprint 700p desktop updater has also become the latest casualty of the faulty ROM updater crisis. Palm attributes the removal of this version of the updater due to issues causing patched 700p’s to enter into an endless reset loop.

Despite the release of the slim
Treo 680,
750 and
755p, many users are sticking with the Treo 650/700 designs due to limited carrier availability of the new models or the older devices’ utilization of higher-capacity fullsize
SD/SDHC cards. Now Treo 650/700 stalwarts have yet another reason to hang on to their old devices a bit longer with the release of Seidio’s new OEM-sized
2600mAh battery for the Treo 650 and 700w/wx/p.

Owners of Treo 750 and 755p can finally enjoy higher-speed file read and write operations when using their
miniSD cards outside of their Treos. Kingston has announced a full line of 4 GB Class 2, 4, and 6 miniSDHC cards. The best news of this announcement is that only $2 separates the various card speeds, so a $66 Class 6 card is infinitely more appealing than a $62 Class 2 card, despite the Treo hardware’s inability to saturate the transfer speeds available on even a Class 2 card. All of the cards carry Kingston’s lifetime warranty.
Today’s release is notable for being the first class 6 miniSDHC card to date from any manufacturer. Prior to today’s announcement, even standard class 2 4 GB miniSDHC cards have been quite scarce and priced considerably higher than their fullsize SDHC brethren. Industry support still lags in regards to adding full SDHC compliance to most non-camera devices such as PCs, PMPs and printers. Nevertheless, this is a welcome step in the evolution of the mini and microSDHC formats and a sure sign that affordable 8 GB miniSDHC cards are forthcoming.

After a disastrous start with the peeling paint of 2004's
Zire 72, the soft-touch rubberized paint has slowly been growing more popular on various products released by Palm. From last year's Treo Hardcase (reviewed
here), Treo 650 "
Black Tie" special edition and GSM Treo
750 to this year's new CDMA Treo
755p, Palm has steadily been rolling out products incorporating this coating for a more secure, luxurious finish. Now Seidio, a popular manufacturer of peripherals for all types of handheld devices, has released a new Treo 700-series hard case that lets owners of non-rubberized Treos enjoy this remarkable finish.
After spending some time recently with a Sprint Treo 755p, I became determined to find a something similar for my 700p.
Read on for the full review of Seidio's new Super Slim Rubberized Hard Case for the Treo 700 series.

Ross Rubin, director of industry analysis for consumer technology at market research and analysis firm The NPD Group, has posted his latest weekly
Engadget blog editorial article "Switched On". In this week’s installment (the first of several about the Foleo), Ross' discusses the segmentation of several camps of naysayers that have sprung up on one side of the Foleo fence; power users who prefer maximum Windows-based portable versatility and power no matter the cost, thrifty types who feel that the same amount of money spent on the Foleo ($500-$600) could be better spent on a low-end Wintel machine and "mobile minimalists" who refuse to deal with the clutter and inconvenience of multiple devices.
