PC Magazine has posted an
interesting new article to their website on the past, present, and potentially grim future of Palm Inc. Sascha Segan, an online columnist for PC Mag, has written a superbly hard-hitting superb piece that admonishes Palm for not only the Foleo cancellation debacle, but for the company's general inability to deliver compelling new products year after year. Segan offers similar advice to Palm as found in the recent
Engadget open letter to Palm and Ed Colligan, "Palm needs to set some deadlines, announce them, and stick to them. They need to suck up the tech community's disbelief for a while, and re-earn its respect by delivering big new ideas on time."

Tamoggemon Software has released a new game for Palm OS devices.
BallZ is a

The speed of the game can be adjusted to the player’s skills in 5 steps and includes moody background music and interesting sound effects.
BallZ v1.0 is available now for Palm OS 5 and higher and is compatible with StyleTap for Windows Mobile devices. A free demo is included and the full game costs $14.95 to register.

Palm has sent out invitations to members of the media (including PalmInfocenter) for a joint press conference with Sprint at the DigitalLife tech show in New York on September 27th. Palm is not giving out any details at this time, but based on
perviously leaked information we can reasonably assume the
Palm Centro will be the topic of discussion.
The DigitalLife event is being held September 27-30, 2007 at the Javits center in New York City. Last year Palm announced the Treo 680 at the same show.

Engadget has posted a number of leaked high-resolution spec sheets from Sprint revealing the source of the recent flurry of Palm Centro photographs and information. Another set of
leaked images also depicts the Centro in person, next to the
Treo 755p and other upcoming Sprint devices.
The marketing document confirms all of the recently rumored specs about the device and the device unfortunately appears to have EVDO Rev. 0 and not the newer Rev. A spec as previous rumors had indicated. The Sprint promotional materials do not specify a "youth" target audience for this device but instead play on the large software bundle and "Palm's familiar world-class ease of use with new added applications…".

WMExperts has posted
new information on the Treo 500 (aka
Gandolf)
first leaked here back in June. The site has a new photo that looks similar to the recent black
Centro images. They claim that it will in fact be called the Treo 500v and is what will be announced on Sept 12th. As the "v" suffix suggests, it's coming to you via Vodafone, Palm's previous partners-in-crime on the
Treo 750v. Like that device, it features a 3G UMTS radio and should be upgradeable to HSDPA - if it isn't already included. It is also said to include a 240x320 non-touchscreen display, a 2 megapixel camera and a
microSD expansion slot.
Contrary to previous speculation, it appears this mystery device is not going to come in Palm's new, smaller Centro form factor, but will be a larger variant thereof - somewhere between the Centro and the new 680/75x style.

Digitimes is citing a source in the Chinese-language newspaper
Commercial Times that claims Palm has made a deal with Taiwan-based Inventec Appliances to produce the upcoming
Palm Centro smartphone with volume shipments to begin soon.
The report goes on to state the Centro will feature a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO radio. Palm has previously confirmed that the Centro will debut on Sprint in the US sometime this fall. It sports a slimmer design and still retains the touch-screen and full keyboard. Prior rumor reports mention an October 14th release and a $99 price point for the new model.

Rumor: Just
days before the unveiling of Palm’s latest smartphone (presumably a Windows Mobile-powered GSM Treo), additional details have surfaced on
PhoneNews about the upcoming Palm Centro. The Centro a.k.a. “Gryphon” is generally
acknowledged to be the equivalent CDMA device to the GSM Windows Mobile Standard Gandolf rumored to be announced this week.
The Centro is expected to debut on October 14th for Sprint’s CDMA network. The latest leaked photos from Sprint’s 4th quarter 2007 roadmap verify the black and silver color scheme first seen in detail here in addition to the white and silver color seen here.

Another update to Google’s Mobile Maps software for Palm OS has been released. This new version, 1.2.0.9, appeared quietly yesterday, exactly two months since the program's
last update.
Google's mobile map page unfortunately still has not been updated to indicate the actual version number currently available. Google also does not post change logs for their app but this is not a major drawback due to the ease with which Google Maps can be downloaded and installed directly as a PRC file on any Palm OS device with internet access.
